Apparently, 8 out of 10 Dutch people support/like the monarchy. That seems downright bizarre whatwith the constant dislike the British seem to have for their own royals.

Actually I think the amount that support the monarchy in Britain is close to that. There's just a very vocal minority, including myself.

But who else to take the crown? Laurent? He's even worse than Philippe. As for Astrid, I just don't know a thing about her (I didn't even know she existed before going to check out Albert's descendants on wikipedia.

Actually, one of the few good things about a succession would be that we'd get to renegociate what the King gets. (Due a a quirk of Belgian law, the Royal purse is negociated at the start or the reign and cannot be renegociated in between). It's normal to pay the King and the Heir, but we shouldn't be paying for all the other princes and stuff. Let them fend for themselves.
