I dont really think we've paid enough attention to Betweenford's poem when we first met him. Especially after Cain's story. The poem just has something cryptical that makes me suspect that it has a hidden meaning.

"I'm the watcher of the watch"
This one seems straighforward enough. If we piece togheter our knowledge, it makes sense that the Angels are the watch, so Betweenford is probably the current leader of the Angels.
"I'm the keeper of the keep"
What would "the keep" refer to? It could be the Warrens, or something in the Warrens themselves. Even so, this does not neccesarily mean he is the lord of the Warrens (see: Minas Tirith in LOTR), just that he is keeping an eye on them for somebody else. Newford, maybe?
"I'm the cheat to cheat all cheaters and the eye that sees them sleep"
This one's tricky. It implies that the cheaters are currently sleeping. I think the cheaters here would be the demons that Oric deceived, and that are now sleeping. Slumbering may be a more fitting word. A sleeping dragon, effectively. If this is the case, then it also implies that Betweenford helped bring down/chain the demons.

Now THAT... is an interesting angle. I don't know exactly how much of it holds up, given that 90% of things that happened on DL1 were when FFS was just getting this thing going, and it was more of a joke than the serious epic it has become, and we know from Word of God that he only plans things out so far for reasons. It's certainly possible that the story was already written by that point, and it's also possible that Betweenford was invisibly retconned into that role... but I think any theorycrafting based in evidence from that far back is unreliable enough that it would require further testing. Kinda like you can't cite Wikipedia but you can definitely read it over to get a good idea of where to go next.

I always interpreted "Keeper of The Keep" to represent he was the one in charge of the Prison(OS). While "Cheat to Cheat the cheaters; And the Eye that watches them sleep" to mean that he is to make sure the cycle goes without anyone breaking the cycles too badly by cheating, and beat them in a fight(His species is unkillable as far as we know, sparing the fact of using Oric's Hammer or maybe our SworldFlux, he merely let us go with a warning because he was short on time, and had elsewhere to be), and after preventing the cheating from taking place, he would always be watching them from behind the "shadows"(or the void) without any knowledge of them knowing whether or not he was there in the first place.

I saw "cheat to cheat all the cheaters" as meaning he was the one that prevented people from breaking the Warrens, hence why we found him in the void. "the eye that sees them sleep" I took as Betweenford being the one who monitors the Warrens to make sure order is maintained.
Actually, on that note, I have a new Epileptic Trees theory for the nature of the Warrens.

It's a literal game, and probably an online one. The Last Seraphim was the original creator. There's not much to support this, aside from making sense within the whole "Oric took control of the warrens from the Seraphim" thing. Anyways, Oric is the guy who took development and upkeep of the game over. Judging from the way Cain described it, the takeover wasn't willing. Most likely, Oric (Or OricSoft, perhaps?) bought/stole the IP from the Seraphim.
This also works with the Siblings being moderators.* Proxxy is probably the one that handles bugs and the like. Cain is a corrupt mod, or at least in the eyes of Oric, and hence is being punished. Ecco could be a chat moderator. I'm not sure what Floe, Ciro, or Riltia would be here, though. The Cherubs could be employees taken from the Cherub's team, though that's a bit of a stretch.
