Gender has never been an obstacle before.  In fact, I'd say gender in the Warrens World is a minor note at best.

Combat is a bad idea.  The GM is actively hinting to us that we should bail.  We can't rely on our semi-NPC buddy to help us.  We should GO.

Well... The big wisp is only a tier above the other Arena battles, so it can't be that hard...
Especially with tactical combat

i made it look like a haiku to someone who doesn't know anything about haiku for the potential brainfuckery, so there's that
tactical combat is overpowered and we should abuse it gloriously
