Pantheon
OOC Thread

In the vast stretches of the Multiverse constantly uncountable Universes are born and cease to exist. Each is born from the Consciousness of an Overgod. A being of such power that it can will a Universe into being.

Every Time an Overgod wakes from his eternal slumber he unconsciously wills a Universe into the vast Stretches of Nothingness. A Bubble of Existence in the Void. This time the birth of a Universe is not different from any other similiar happening.

Mutare awakes and is alone in the mind-boggling emptiness of his own Universe. Still a young and fresh Overgod he is filled with powers incomprehensible to a mere Mortal Being. By his will he can create and he can destroy and so the Eternal Dance of Void and Aether begins anew...

Mutare awakens and wills the Universe into Existence. He is still young and fresh for an Overgod and thus filled with sheer endless Powers.

This looks interesting. PTW, and to express interest in future involvement.

Hmm, this is quite drab. Maybe I'll play a game.
First I'll need a board.

Create a planet, quite large and 50% of it's surface being covered with water in the form of oceans and seas. The land is mostly flat with rolling hills and forests, with mountains rimming the edges of continents. Various flora and fauna will in and on the oceans and all of the 9 continents except one, which will be barren, volcanic, and harsh but filled with precious minerals. Then create a sun for the planet, slightly larger than our own sun but still a yellow star.
And some pieces...
Then create 3 "dolls" (full fledged races) one a medium sized creature called a human, the second a shorter race called the dwarves, and the third a tentacle creature modeled after myself called the Squiddle. The first two races shall inhabit all the continents, the squiddle will inhabit the oceans. The humans will reside in the flat areas while the dwarves will live in the mountains and volcanoes.
Ahh, there we go. The board is set, let the game begin! Though, i do feel a bit tired, maybe I'll take a nap.

Then go to sleep.

Turn 1

And in the absolute Absence of Light, a Darkness few have ever percieved, a light comes to flickering life. Mutare creates the First Sun. and orbiting it the first Planet.

A Planet not unlike ours although with far more landmass. Teeming with life the planet is home to three Races.

Squiddles, Beings formed in the likeness of their creator, live on the ocean floor roaming the seas in small groups. While they procreate quickly they are not the primary hunter in the sea. In the shallow seas sharks hunt them, in the high seas whales and in the great darkness they are hunted by giant squids. However the Squiddles soon adapt and most go ever further into the depths, going so deep that the only danger are the few giant squids. There they life in small clans living of what survives on the sea floor.

The Humans quickly spread across the plains, adapting to the harsh weather conditions, but still hunted by other predators. Soon the small family clans discover the various uses of sharpened rocks and sticks and soon the clans follow the great herds of herbivores hunting down the weak and the young. With them they carry small huts made of sticks and grass, which give somewhat comfort against the cold of the night.

Meanwhile on the last continent. a barren land of brimstone and fire, the dwarves fight for survival. Food is scarce  and even more so water. Being the alrgest living animal around dwarves do not need to fear any predators and the scarcity of food drives them into solitary lives. Those living close to the seas or rivers soon discover that they are teeming with life and using sharpened sticks to hunt for them in the shallow waters. The Few Dwarves that live near the mountains are living from gathering small animals and plants, barely surviving on their diet.

But with the unleashing of such powers, the ebbs and flows of the Aether are stirred, causing fluctuations with unforeseen events. While creating the Planet Mutare accidentally rips open the Veil, only for the glipse of a moment butt long enough for a metoerite to pass through. Deciding to ignore it, it is attracted to the planet and creatures all over the planet stare in awe as a fiery ball races over the Night Sky only to vanish on the horizon. Seconds later, a blinding light, a sound of thunder and then silence. The Meteorite came crashing down into the Ninth Continent eliminating most of the already sparse Dwarvish population, reducing it to those who live near the seas and the rivers. But from that Meteorite crawls something else. A snake of enormous length. slowly it burrows into the Earth and rests in nearby magma-pocket, where it dreams of fire and brimstone.

But this tiny accidental rip in the thin barrier between the Void and the Universe leaves enough space for other entities to slip through. One is called by the promise of Change and Transition. The other by the smell of grass and the beating of hearts. When they arrive, they find an almost empty universe, except for a Sun and a single planet.

Meanwhile Mutare has already entered an aeons lasting sleep, but while he has already done the necessary rituals to seal the rent in the Aether, it reaches into his dreams anyway...and twists them, confuses them and finally another consciousness touches his own in his dreams. He sees green eyes, fascinating green eyes of a humanoid on a hill. Soon the picture vanishes and like so often with dreams Mutare forgets it.

But dreams have power and those of an Overgod are indeed mighty. With a mere dream he forced a being from another Universe into this. And thus Thaneos, the Father of Giants finds himself on a plain with rolling hills, alone.

Mutare creates a Sun.
Mutare creates a Earth-Like Planet, with 9 Continents, which is teeming with Life.
Mutare creates the Humans.
Mutare creates Dwarves
Mutare creates Squiddles, beings made in hiw own likeness.

Az-Sho, the Fiery Serpent beneath the World lands on the planet and kills many of the Dwarves
Thaneos the father of Giants is dreamed into existence by Mutare and another Overgod
Sabt Golgo, pierces the Veil and enters the Universe
Neyravah follows her closely

The Squiddle population is severly reduced due to larger Predators in the Seas, they flee to the bottom of the Sea, where they live in small groups of hunters and gatherers.

Dwarves become solitary beings. This is due to the lack of Predators and the scarcity of Food. They only stay together to raise the children.
Dwarves learn how to Fish with Spears.
Dwarves learn how to produce Tools with Knapping.

Humans thrive on the plains and hills and quickly learn how to Produce Tools with Knapping. They mostly follow the large herds of herbivores and hunt the weak and sick.
They live together in small clans of a few dozen members.
Humans have also learned to make temporary housings out of sticks and grass.

The MotherDark was eternal. The small one was comforted by the closeness of it, the sensation that it would be cared for, cradled in the womb of the world. But nothing stays the same, not completely, and eventually the small one grew large and found that the MotherDark was not as eternal as previously believed; it was cramped and confining, and made horrible screeching noises when the not-small one moved. But there was naught to be done about it; despite being small, the MotherDark was the boundary of the world: nothing lay beyond it. The not-small one struggled and squirmed, aching to stretch to it's full length. After an eternity, or a mere second, the not-small one felt something alien - movement from the outside. It felt like a shudder at first, but then a most peculiar feeling entered the not-small one - almost as if that what was inside it was raising up, up, up, till the not-small one thought they would fly out it's top. A million lengths of intangible bodies seemed to press down on the not-small one, and it feared it would be crushed, when -
The world stopped, and the not-small one rushed past it, to have its length flattened against one edge of the world. A strange sensation drifted through the MotherDark - moving currents of intangible small ones stirred against it's body, and it could feel a peculiar slowing of it's body in reaction to this. It attempted to cast its glance in the direction the ethereal sensations were coming from and shifted it's head. A fierce joy welled up within it, and it began to thrash wildly, rejoicing in the rushing sensation that filled it. It swung it's head over to the source of the sensations and ... a dazzling display of LIGHT, solid and defined, overwhelmed it from years of being trapped in the MotherDark. It flinched from the glare. MotherDark may be small, but OutsiderLight was cold and intimidating. Should it stay? It cast its head about and saw the shattered body of the MotherDark and knew it could not. Gazing upon itself, it saw a sleek length of fiery red, filling its vision with pleasurable sensations of heat. A burst of OutsideTouch rattled through the ruins of MotherDark and the not-small one heard:

AZ-SHO
Was the world naming him? Was that what he was to be called? Az-Sho. It sounded ... fitting. But as generous as the world was, it was too vast for him. Moving - such a glorious sensation - along the ground, Az-Sho was cold, and was drawn toward a source of heat, immeasurable heat. Casting his gaze toward the glowing pool of something, Az-Sho felt something slide down before his vision, and everything become strangely muted. Sliding into the glowing liquid, Az-Sho knew that this was his home - it was as comfortingly warm as the MotherDark, yet as free as the Outside. But he did not wish to endlessly slither amongst the currents of - magma, that sounded right - currents of magma that flowed all around this planet. He desired a home. And so he made one.

With a rumble of Earth and Fire, Az-Sho creates a mighty volcano on the site where he landed, standing taller than any mortal can climb, and stretching out of sight from end to end (think 5 km high, 15 km long), that belches fire and smoke across the world. In here, Az-Sho frolics among the vast magma pool and grows.

Mutare closed his ever changing number of eyes for some well needed rest, he did just create a star, a planet, and 3 races mind you.
However, he suddenly opened his eyes once more. "Strange, I thought i was going to sleep a bit longer" but then he looked down at his body, completely different from his normal form. "Oh, I guess I am still dreaming. Well, I can still move in this form, but i feel... weaker somehow. Oh well, maybe I'll go check on that little world."

Actions: Minor Act: Create a sphere about 6 feet in diameter, a perfect replica of the planet, with grid lines all across it's surface. Every town or being of importance shows up as a little carved crystal game piece on the grid.
((I like to think of omnipotent Mutare as being random and ever-changing, but his avatar is a gentlemanly creature fond of chess-like games; though the two personalities somewhat spill over into each other sometimes.))

Neyravah looked upon the dwarven lands, and saw that it was not good.

Create a mighty jungle on the rocky continent using a Mighty Act.

He crumbled boulders for soil and grew trees, great trees. And yet, it was not yet good. He added vines, some with poisonous leaves but others bearing sweet fruits. Neyravah also created many kinds of animals to inhabit the jungle--from little butterflies to pollinate the trees to clawdrakes--reptillian beasts 20 feet long, predatory and hunting in small packs. Other notable creatures are the clubdrakes, larger than clawdrakes but herbivores; flitdrakes, winged creatures only a few feet long, which live in flocks and could be trained; ouranites, clever dual-headed serpents; and crocodiles. There are also colorful birds and some small rodents, as well as giant frogs, salamanders, and spiders. The jungle was filled with life.
But was this enough? Neyra and Ravah realized they could do more. Swiftly, they expanded to continent, adding inland seas. The trees grew massive, taller than any others in existence. The beasts grew numerous and often larger. Fangdrakes--larger clawdrakes, nearly 50 feet long and with puny forelimbs--prowled alone through the jungle. Whipdrakes, massive and dumb, wandered through the trees, eating low leaves. A multitude of incredible beasts were generated. Finally, Neyravah realized one thing to make this place complete.
At the center of the continent, he made a huge mountain, with smaller trees. At the top of the mountain, he made a massive emerald, glowing with inner power. This glow reached over nearly the whole continent at dusk, although by night it lessened and it was almost invisible in the day. All things touched by the glow were strengthened, invigorated, and made fruitful. Thus all of Neyravah's creations would be blessed. The glow also caused changes to occur slightly more often, and significantly less of them were harmful rather than helpful. In short, evolution was enhanced.

The dwarves marveled, shaking with fear at the strange changes. A few mourned the destruction of what shelter they had made; but this sadness changed to joy when they realized the bounty of the jungles. All the fruit they could want--sweet and delicious--could be found with a bit of effort. The animals, too, improved the food supply, once defeated; this lead to an improvement in weapons technology. While Neyravah had not intended this, it was not displeasing. When a mighty dwarven warrior defeated a fangdrake, he chose to take them under his wing. They have great potential...

Make myself known to the dwarves, which shouldn't take an Act right?

((Dwarves' meeting RP'd in a later post.))

Sabt Golgo, the Great Spider, watched, and waited.

Her thoughts were coming back slowly. She had been immaterial, a mere thought floating beyond the Veil - now she had form, purpose, a mind. Her ethereal shape hung against the blackness of the void, limbs and body of dull false-light unseen behind the radiance of the new star. This universe had not come into being on its own. An Overgod, then... the Spider let her gaze wander across the young world, searching for a power capable of birthing all this.

There were others here. Unsurprising. The power here would have attracted many, and would again. The weakest would perish trying to pass the Veil, leaving only those with the strongest will. The Spider studied her 'kin', swarming around the speck of dirt and rock by the star, for a moment - enough, for now.  They paid little heed to the outer universe, as if cradling the little planet and its star for warmth.

The Great Spider spread, shaking death from her limbs. Her body rapidly gained new radiance, casting a shimmering light over the void. Slowly, she moved, crawling through the darkness, coming ever closer to the world and the others. She would ignore them for now, and build herself a place to think, first. Letting herself draw to a halt in orbit of the little world, she began to work.

Most of this universe was strange and new, but she knew starlight. Drawing from the sole star's radiance, she spun her false-light and began to weave, letting the planet spin below her.

---

Mighty Act: Sabt Golgo creates a ring of woven starlight around the planet, immaterial to touch. From the planet, it appears to be a radiant band of light cutting across the sky, visible even at day-time. Its glow wanes and waxes according to the Great Spider's whims.

Sabt Golgo claims the Spider's Ring as her home, forever creeping within its webs.

He was alive. His first feeling was surprise, surprise at the fact that he was alive - and then he felt fear, for he was caught in a maelstrom whose power dwarfed anything else to exist. For but a few seconds, Thaneos was in the aether, between universes, and for these few seconds, he felt fear. But something changed - he saw something that calmed the storm if only for a few second, a being that looked at him and met his eyes. Seeking refuge, Thaneos grasped the being's mind, using it as a shelter against the storm, and because of this he was able to follow it... And that being, perhaps intentionally and perhaps not, pulled him out of the storm when it returned to its own universe.

After surprise and fear, he felt curiosity. He stood on rolling hills, empty if not for him ; above him the sky was lit by what appeared to be a ring of light ; below him, there was grass, earth, and nothing else. After a time, he realized that he was constantly surrounded by light because he was glowing himself - a dim, wavering red light at first, which slowly became brighter and brighter as time passed. He walked for a time uncounted, and he saw things during his journey - small animals, beings on two legs that seemed to think and that always ran away from him, plants... Yet he felt alone. He was not connected to any of these beings - they were small and puny, and whenever he touched them they had a tendency to catch on fire instantly, for a reason which he did not completely understand. Solitude followed curiosity.

As the powers within him grew, and the light started to be blinding, something unexpected happened. He felt a shift within himself  - something was moving. He started feeling something terrible within himself, something the small beings called pain - and he screamed and screamed. The animals and humans nearby fled or died as the being felt terror and pain, as he thought he was dying - but death did not reach him. Instead, he realized that something was slowly clawing its way out of him, something mighty and terrible. He pulled it out, and threw it far away; as far as he could throw something, with all of his might. There was another thing within himself, and that thing managed to escape alone; it left his body and turned around to look at him. The being was tall, like him - taller than any other mortal creature on this world. It radiated an energy similar to that of the mortals, if immeasurably more powerful - life. Eventually, it left - neither of them knew how to communicate yet, and the ancient was too exhausted to attempt anything - but it understood something. It had a creator - a Father.

Thaenos had created his first children. He was no longer alone.

Thaneos accidentally creates the first two Giants, who control life energy. One of them is sent to the continent of the dwarves; another remains in the human plains. Thaenos does not communicate with them initially (he does not know how to speak yet).

Turn 2

And so time progressed and the new Gods started to press their mark upon the planet. Especially the Ninth Continent seemed of interest.

Vast changes in its Flora,Fauna and Climate, extincted the few species that lived there before. Vast Jungles stretched over the whole continent only broken by vast swathes of Burned Land near the Volcanoes. Especially one, the one populated by Az-Sho, caused vast swathes fo jungle in its direct surroundings to burn down. Where before grew jungles now there was Savannah. But indeed while vast stretches of land surrounding the Volcanoes never recovered, most of them continued to thrive, for one due to the Emerald of Life and secondly due to the presence of another being. The Firstborn of the Life Giants, Son of Thaneos and as the Dwarves would name him later: Atlas.

Atlas being abandoned by his father travelled the continent, taking in the wonders of life in the jungles and silently observing the struggles of the Dwarves in this yet unkown Environment. The Dwarves who came upon him revered to him as their god, following him around since he kept the large fangdrakes and the packs of clawdrakes away. More and more Dwarves began to follow him. And finally when Atlas found the Emerald of Life, three hundred dwarves were following him. Feeling an Energy emanating from the Emerald similiar to his own he decided he had found a purpose. And so he sat down for the first time. The Dwarves took this as an omen and followed their self-chosen god. The Bounty of the Jungles and the safety of Atlas presence allowed the Dwrves to settle down. Soon they build the first housings from the wood of the Trees and disccovered that if they worked together they could hunt down a clubdrake and defend themselves against the viscious packs of clawdrakes. In time they also discovered use for the hides and bones of these beasts.

And so the small settlement grew over a century to the first Dwarven Village, ruled by the Elder Dwarves and the benevolent Atlas: Emeraldhome.

But the Dwarves who didn't follow Atlas or didn't come upon Emeraldhome fared not so good. Hunted by the clawdrakes and the even larger fangdrakes they were driven onto the savannahs and finally ever closer to the Huge Volcanoes. Especially one seemed to attract more and more of the solitary Dwarves who out of fear of predations had clustered together in small families, who began to life in small nomadic groups in the savannahs at the foot of the Volcanoe which Az-Sho created as its abode. While the large fangdrakes and the herds of clawdrakes didn't leave the forests, the massive whipdrakes were far more successfull in the open and bounded together in vast herds, which were hunted by the Savannah-Dwarves. Both groups were trailed by flocks flitdrakes, which fed on the carrion the Dwarves left behind.

A third group of Dwarves still continued to thrive. The Fisherdwarves at the Coast continued to grow in numbers. Although still living solitary, they soon found that huts of dirt and stone protected from the Storms of the Sea.

And over all that Neyravah mader herself known to the Dwarves. While the Fisherdwarves ignored her, the Dwarves of Emeraldhome worshipped Atlas as the manifestation of her Will. The Savannah Dwarves however began to worship her as the Goddess of Death. A Harbringer of Mischance, the Goddess of Wrath and a dozen other beliefs each one differing from the next, depending on the family group.

Meanwhile the Humans perfect their ways of hunting. The grass-huts are soon replaced by tents of bone and hide which can be carried or dragged on a travois. Using the Hides of slain animals they protect themselves against the weather.

And while Thaneos and his son travel the lands the humans may run away when they come close but watch the from afar, noticing how these beings carry the spark of sentience in them and feeling the power they emanate. After some years they notice that Humans life small gifts in their way, offerings and sacrifices in the hope that the giants might be benevolent.

While both Humans and Dwarves, either become settled or perfect their nomadic ways, the Squiddles stagnate, content with hunting on the sea floors after small fishes and crabs, they continue to wander the dark depths, their numbers slowly managing to grow.

As the years pass the earths eems to grow colder it seems, ash thrown into the sky clouds the sun more often then not and while the Ninth Continent stays warm due to the proximity of volcanoes, the other Continents gradually cool down. Especially the eastern and western pole caps increase massively in size. Harsh Winters now beat down the Humans of the West and the East and finally on a especially Cold Winter Day, the Veil is torn once again...

Thaneos births the first two Giants. Both are aspected to life.
Sabt Golgo creates the Spider's Ring, an immaterial net woven from starlight.
Neyravah creates a Mighty Jungle on the Ninth Continent.
Neyravah also creates the Emerald of Life, a Magic Stone, who invigorates the surrounding Lands.
Mutare creates a sphere about 6 feet in diameter, a perfect replica of the planet, with grid lines all across it's surface. Every town or being of importance shows up as a little carved crystal game piece on the grid.
Az-Sho creates a massive Volcanoe
Avarian the Elder God of Cold is born...
-------------------------------------------------
Through the extensive changes on the Ninth Continent the Dwarves differentiate in their ways of living:

The Fisherdwarves of the Coast, live in abodes of rock and dirt and life solitary.
The Savannahdwarves, live in small family groups and hunt the vas herds of whipdrakes.
The Dwarves of the Jungles follow Atlas to the Emerald of Life, where they form the first Settlement, Emeraldhome. They discover Carpentry,Stone Weapons and Tanning.

The Humans learn how to Build Tents of Hide and Bone and how to use Stone Weapons.

The Squiddles stagnate

Neyravah looked upon the dwarves. He found the one who slew a Fangdrake, and healed his wounds.
"What...how?"
"It is I. I am Neyravah, the one who made this mighty jungle."
"Thank you, Neyravah...what do you desire?"
"Go out. Find others of your kind. Tell them of your great feat, your grave injuries, and how they were healed."
"But no one would--"
Neyravah manifested, and the dwarf gasped. The god took a single swipe with a foreclaw and the fangdrake's head was removed from the body. As Nevravah faded, a large lizard came. At Neyravah's suggestion, the dwarf placed the head on the lizard's back.
"Now go. Spread knowledge of me. And one last thing..."
"Yes, Neyravah?"
"What is your name?"
"I am Udil, Great One."
"Thank you. Now then, Udil, I will guide you."

-----

Udil was lead to a clearing in the jungle made by some whipdrakes an a "fortuitous" strike of lightning. The jungle would grow back, but for now this clearing makes a good meeting-place. All dwarves within several miles were brought here, whether by a promise of food or a fear of predators. All told, there are a few hundred dwarves present. They don't understand why they all came here, or why none want to leave. Many are anxious--this is more people than most, if not all, have ever seen at once in their entire lives!
The crowd parted, allowing the strange sight to pass. No one knew what to say. Then Neyravah told Udil.
"I--I have good news for you. There is a mighty being who has granted us these g-gifts...gifts of a great jungle to live in...full of food and--"
Someone throws a rock at Udil. "Gifts?" this dwarf asks. "We once lived in peace. We ate fish and seaweed, and that was enough. Then this 'being' you speak of, who evidently wants the best for us, expresses this care by throwing up trees everywhere, drying the oceans for
more trees, and throwing in massive monsters, many of which eat us! Furthermore--"
"STOP."
Neyravah manifested again, soaring down into the clearing. His presence frightened the dwarves.
"Do not be afraid. I come to help you build a new life, a better one. Your spears, once used to catch fish, may be modified to catch new foods. What's more, there are now fruits which you can pick and eat with hardly any effort.
"While there are predators now, there are also bounties of food. It is time for a new era for dwarves. You will build a village here, under my guidance. There is abundant food in the surrounding lands. Life will be easier now. And, as a final gift..."

A flock of flitdrakes flew into the clearing. The dwarves were startled, but then the flitdrakes landed and started looking about. Soon, the dwarves realized the flitdrakes were friendly.

Neyravah smiled as his physical form vanished. The dwarves would be perfectly fine.

Ninja'd by the update. The above is how I imagined it happening, but I was lazy and wrote it piecemeal. Shoot. Too late to retcon another dwarven village in?

The giant leading the dwarves has done well...I must speak with him.

"Hello, Atlas."

((What happens now?))

Az-Sho swirled, spun, and grew. In the magma, he was safe, and the heat gave him strength. He had learned of how to sense vibrations in the earth he swam under; they were the footsteps of creatures, he knew, and they felt pleasant to him. He wished to have them near him, soothing him with their footsteps. But they were not suited for his particular climate; they broiled and died in the heat he found so pleasant.
They would have to be changed. So he called out, in a rumbling roar eerily reminiscent of the volcano he made his home in. Those whose minds were touched by fire would hear, and come.
Az-Sho's cry shakes the Earth, drawing in any dwarves on the continent with a particular affinity for Eartb or Fire to the top of Az-Sho's volcano. As they approach, they feel the fire within themselves reaching out, drawing power from the proximity of Az-Sho. Any dwarves who get to the top of the volcano become fire resistant and become able to feed off of heat, causing them to make a settlement (and cult to Az-Sho) around the rim of the volcano.

"Oh dear, it seems that the 9th continent is quite popular with the other powers of this world. A-and my squiddles!! Oh no, my poor squiddles! Why should you hide in the dark recesses of the oceans, while my other children play in the light? Come, I will bring you into the lighter waters, and you will be the greatest of the aqueous creatures."

Actions: Minor Act: Teach the squiddles how to build great towers, similar to coral, in which they will live. The tips of the towers will reach just below the surface of the ocean.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.
