Aha, I downloaded the save, and you forgot to add there patched exe file. Got it from mod page.

Journal of Peregar Mirrorplans, Animal trainer and Second Overseer

4th Granite.

Just have a look at our nice place. What do you see?
The last stand of dwarven race. The hope of all dwarves survied in this world. The frontier where sixteen dwarves settled to fight the harsh outside world. Right?

THE ABSOLUTE UNCONCERN, THAT'S WHAT YOU SEE!!!!
We have no gate at all!
We're protected by a single line of cage traps only!
The only fighter we have fights UNARMED and wears only gauntlets, greaves and helm!
Our Herbalist is gathering the stuff at the outside, just waiting for any hostile to get him!
Holy carp, how can we hope surviving here with all that?

This has to change! Under my reign we shall set the proper defences and became highly self-sufficient here. So no enemy can breach our mighty walls, and dwarven children can safely grow up and prosper!

To the work!

Well, I don't expect fort would be attacked now, it's still have low value and population and, I focused on food, rooms ect.

Good luck.

Edit: Silver is made to fight by fists.
Edit 2: Wait, what patched exe file? Game isn't working on save's raws?

Journal of Peregar, the Second Overseer
17th Felsite
Elves came to trade. They broght their usual stuff and two pandas! Hell, we have to buy them... but they are too expensive. Let's make more lead goblets!

Also, we dug to cavern. Before we caould patch the hole, a giant mole queeze into. Silver was on duty and quickly killed it with his iron spear. Yes, I made him iron spear and copper shield. That proved its efficiency - imagine how long it would take to wrestle a mole!

And we have a gate, finally. The lever is next to dining hall and dormitory. But no new dwarves came to our site.

patched exe that comes with Modest Mod. It fixes some annoying bugs.

well, I already changed Silver to speardwarf, have he stated he wants to fight with fists?
Unfortunately we haven't found any flux here, and I doubt we will find it. So, no steel!  :(
Will continue tomorrow.

Meh. Spears are still badass. And I do believe that you only get assaulted by goblin invasions when you have more than 60 dorfs, right?

Flux is in plains, you know, where are trees and other green stuff.
If you need, you can sell to elfs some trap components.
Silver with spear, well, if you want, ok... I thought he will be badass, who kill with hands.

It's summer here. I'm making stuf to sell for those pandas, others making a pasture palisade for them.

And when I saw this, I had the only question.

HOW?!

Elves told they are leaving before I made enough, so we just took those pandas. It's a credit. We'll pay next time.

Here I am, going on with this long-forgotten place.

25th Galena
We're celebrating the first birth there! Usrir Scrapegilt, the presser, has given birth to a girl, and her husband Momuz Lensgold, the fishcleaner is ecstatic about that.
Bad thing that thry are the only married couple here. And Volf has a romance with Lorbam the Legendary Miner. Come on, lads, lasses! How can we repopulate this land in such way?

Also, we've finished pasture zone for pandas. It will be also a surface farm and tree-cutting zone, and pandas a feeding on bamboo shoots.
And, we finaly have an abundance of booze! I persanolly distilled every crop we got from elves, since our farms produce too little. This has to change, by the way - we re-irrigated the farm zone.

I think it's good time to have a break from our labors.

1st Moonstone
Tha autumn passed pretty calm. The only annoyance we had was the goblin thief who was captured in the cage trap.
Apart from that - we dug to second and third caverns, and found no flux. So, the best we can have there is iron. I am disappointed.
Gigantic panda was trained for war. I think it can be great warrior, provided with daily ration of bamboo...

In what biome you digged? In mountain or forest?
Embark screen say flux is in forest biome.
