the rabbits are for leather, since they're nearly zero maintenance and each one is a piece of armor that is kosher to trade with the homeland. Yeah seriously don't slaughter the falcons either.

I'm well aware that falcons aren't for slaughtering, I had pair in a dwarf fort a year or two back and I loved those little things. The hills were covered with so many dead hamsters.

EDIT: On the note of the farms, the ones in the south enclosure seem to be in a plantless biome. So there shall be no growing stuff there. I think I'll jam some workshops in there instead or use it for grazing space.

Really? Damn, sorry for that.

It's not a problem.

Is that part of the embark in a mountain biome perhaps? Nothing can grow in them, not plants or trees, just grass.

It does make good space for grazers though.

EDIT: The high boot shaping reaction seems to make 1 high boot and 1 low boot.

EDIT2: Ok... the second time I ran the reaction it made two high boots. This is odd.

EDIT3: Found something that may be worth adding to the mod. Elves currently have no way to make querns, which means no way to grind up plants for dyes and flour.

1st Granite
The others have given me the task of running our affairs for a year. They seem to think it will make me care more about nature if I get involved in the growth of our home and our supplies. I doubt it.

Still, I'd best get something done. We'll move unicorn mares to the southern enclosure to keep them out of harms way, maybe we can get an infuser and some shapers set up there.

14th Granite
A caravan has come from Iyathi Nemathe.

The liason claims two sites were conquered by the
confederacies of carnage.

We had nothing much to trade with them, so there has been no trade this year.

27th Granite
A woodcrafter ran past me screaming in a hollow voice today. He seems to have locked himself in a craftworkshop. Stuff like this makes me glad I moved to the northmost tower.

2nd Slate
The guardshapers presented me with an ironwood helm today. It's rather heavy, but it's much sturdier than our other armour, much of which is salvaged or made of bone.

I told them to keep making armour. The scraps we're wearing are far from sufficient.

5th Slate
The woodcrafter made a figurine. The subject matter is... disturbing to say the least. It portrays a hideous beast killing a dwarf.

20th Slate
A group of migrants have arrived at our doors.

6th Felsite
One of the animal handlers told me that one of our falcons found a pool of magma while hunting in the caverns. I don't know what he expects me to do about it, it's not like I can direct the river down there and rid us of the dangerous fires of the deep earth.

I didn't seem to have an elf named after me, so I poked around and found one who didn't care about nature.  :D

Adamantine infusing and wood mechanisms also don't work.

Infusing adamantine requires adamanat bearing stones, there is no such thing, the reaction will need to use raw adamantine like the strand extraction reaction.

Wood mechanisms don't inherit the material type of the reagent wood.

That's odd. . . lemme take another peek at the raws here. . .
EDIT: Alright. It *should* be repaired now. I didn't specify a material in the output for the mechanisms. Adamant wood should now properly use raw adamantine rather than looking for an adamantine-bearing ore. Uploading the fix now to DFFD; check my sig to get the link.

10th Hematite
Human merchants have arrived.

18th Hematite
We bought seeds, dye, flour, cheese in exchange for wooden trinkets.

28th Hematite
Migrants have arrived.

4th Malachite
An animal caretaker has been possessed.

9th Malachite
The caretaker cut a perfect sardonyx in the jewelers workshop.

26th Malachite
Our miner was digging up gold in the caverns and came across a shiny blue rock. I've told him to dig some up and drag it to the surface.

9th Limestone
Dwarves are here to trade. I wonder if the bearded little creatures have anything worth buying.

26th Sandstone
Migrants. We may need to set up some new bedspace.

1st Timber
Murdoc has been hauling some junk into a leatherworks, I wonder what he's up to.

8th Timber
Murdoc has made a short leather skirt. It's nice... but... why?

11th Timber
Sheo has become a hammerlord.

21st Opal
Bleedheart has become a spearmaster.

17th Obsidian
Quartz Mace has become a hammerlord.

1st Granite
My year of running this place if over. We've set up a hospital, some new beds, buried some of our people in one of the towers and gotten started on properly equipping ourselves for defense.

I'm going to be sticking to my tower for a while I think. Maybe try to tame my pet hungry mouths and practice my sword drills.

_______________________________
Well that's me done. I've not swapped the raws with the ones that make mechanisms and adamantine infusing work properly yet so the next person should get that done before they start.

I noticed in the last month that we have two Quartz Maces in the fort, one with a _ in the name and one without. Both are hammerlords and I wasn't sure if I should rename one, so I left them as is. We have an archer squad set up and training bit by bit, we lost a few elves to hunting various things and the arrows largely bouncing off. I moved the farms to the north outside the main entrance, got a few crops growing. That's about it. Will post the save shortly.

I enabled some hunters mostly to see how wooden arrows actually fare against wild animals.

Considering that an elf was killed by a near crippled kangaroo, the answer is : Not well.
