... Maybe we could get him to join the party, if he has any useful skills?

I like him already.  Cuz he's bloo.

Ask him what path in life lead him to this place.

You approach the Kenku, and ask him how he wound up here. Did something happen to him? Does he have a home to go to, and food to eat? Is he alright?

The beggar continues to look at you, in complete silence. You consider asking him if he's deaf, but as you realize how pointless that could be, you hear a voice call down from somewhere above you.

Hey, stranger. You're wasting your time. The Word Bird doesn't talk unless you pay him.

Only slip him one, he'll probably say a few words then claim you need to pay him for more. Just be prepared to spend 5, but only if he's got anything worthy to hear.

Did you forget to include yourself or Vector, or is that counting all the plusses that aren't NRDL's?
It counts everyone except freeform. And placed the wrong username with the right post.

Yeah, this one.  Being pointlessly profligate in the name of looking nice isn't really a positive... that sort of thing tells everyone else on the street "hey, we're loaded!"  Discretion is the better part of virtue!

Hey up there. What exactly do you mean by Word Bird? And who are you?

Who am I? Well, for starters, I'm a bit too busy to play tour-guide right now. And I think you can figure out the answer to your first question on your own. Barking back and forth like this is going to rile up the natives. Market's got rules, you know.

With that, the figure on the balcony withdraws. Seemed a bit peeved. Anyway, you think you've kept this Word Bird waiting long enough. You weigh how much to give him, being a traveler in a mostly unfamiliar city. After some deliberation, you decide not to start flinging your coins everywhere, and toss a single silver into his alms bowl.

There you go, friend. That should get you a bite to eat, and a place to stay if you don't have one.

Palaver.

Er... pardon?

Palaver. The act of talking excessively or idly. It may be used to denote such talk as well. Example: "I can't stand those children, and their racketous palaver!" And it'd have been a fair bit less rude than "barking," considering the context.

Dictionary bird, eh?

Pretty nifty fellow.

Thank him kindly for the service, like a nice, polite, charitable person. Debate giving him more or looking at other stuff.

((Hey Soli, what font are you using? I've been trying to find a really good pixel font. The one I use in Warrens is called DeluxeFont, but it does funny things with spacing and doesn't look good at its base size.))
