Lava temple

At the bottom of the Umber Monastery, an abandoned temple made from native gold, I find this:

I found one like that, but not solid gold. I sacrificed my lignite earring in it for good luck. Later I used the the reveal command in DFhack to try to find a vampire and saw that the earring was embedded in the wall.  :o

Legend tells of a fort besieged by a dragon. When 79 brave recruits fell to its breath, the last dwarf of the fort took up arms. So how deep exactly is the lava ? Is there a volcano or magma pipe nearby ?
