Avendar: the Crucible of Legends (v0.2)
« on: February 07, 2013, 05:21:49 pm »

DOWNLOAD (v0.2 for DF 0.34.11) from DFFD

Avendar mod removes the stock fantasy races (dwarves, elves, goblins) from DF, replacing them with the races and other elements from the online text-based RPG Avendar: the Crucible of Legends.

Each Avendarian race has its own unique language, culture, and traits. Much of the distinct flora and fauna of Avendar is also added to the game, from ironwood and cloudberries to amber dragons and kkhilgh.

Races - Fortress & Adventure Mode
  • shuddeni - eyeless, cruelly evil beings who seek power and dominion. Shuddeni cities are traditionally complex labyrinths tunneled in the deep underearth. Shuddeni priests impose a theocracy of dark order in the society. Shuddeni have enslaved another race, primitive hairy creatures called chaja, and also breed yaril--black, tentacled creatures that patrol their deep chambers. Shuddeni build totem displays and four types of Shrines to practice their corrupt arts and worship their evil deities.
  • aelin - winged, status-conscious creatures who are fond of the civilized arts. Surface-dwellers, aelin build cities which were traditionally many-tiered architectural wonders suspended over water, but contemporary cities may take any form. An aelin chancellor leads the nobles in aelin society; many nobles focus on the arts and contribute little else, thus requiring extra work from the peasantry to support the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy.  Aelin artisans hone their craft in artisan guilds and often display works publicly in display cases.
  • ethron - short, green-skinned folk who love the forests and fields. Those dwelling in the deep forest are organized into clans and follow their clan lord. Though not as tall as most humanoids, ethron are stout and strong workers. They have a special affinity for ironwood trees are unique in their ability to shape ironwood into armor and weapons.
Races - Adventure Mode Only
  • human - "Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure." - Agent Smith
  • alatharya - silver-skinned giants, their ancestors were mighty mages who challenged the Gods themselves--and lost. Now cursed, they are simple-minded barbarians who wander the grasslands and savannas (and are not likely to survive long in worldgen)
  • kankoran - wolf-like nomads of the tundra and steppe, they have pack-oriented societies with rigid concepts of duty and honor.
  • srryn - scaled humanoids with lizard-like traits, these swamp-dwellers are savages and primates who worship disease, decay, and brutality.
  • nefortu - nimble and bat-like diminutive humanoids who prefer dark caverns. These flying tricksters tend to be full of mischief, and their societies fractious and chaotic. There are no better thieves than the nefortu.
  • chaja - another tunnel-dwelling race, strong and brutish. They are historically slaves to the shuddeni, whose superior intellect and magical abilities have allowed them to subjegate, command, and breed the chaja like beasts.
  • caladaran - mystics and sages attuned to nature, the caladaran would rather contemplate mysteries and live solitary lives on the outskirts of cities than develop strong societies of their own.
  • ch'taren - goodly beings native to the plane of Spirit, these humanoids have a golden, translucent skin. They are known for their passion for freedom and peace. Having a migratory nature, they make few settlements of their own.

I've released a new version, .2 (release notes above) and would welcome any feedback, whether you're familiar with the Avendar RPG setting or not. :)
