Author Topic: I'm working on a "Soylent Green"-ish mod, but need a few pointers please.  (Read 12836 times)

The idea of this mod is to turn ANY (most) standard plants in the game into a "Green Gel", and then turn that subsequent Gel into ANY (most lol) other plant, at a cost of 1 Plant into 1 Gel, and 2 Gels into 1 New Plant

To use this mod just build the two custom workshops, one (the boiling pot) takes plants and makes them into "green" in a 1:1 conversion.
The second, called the Congealer, turns that "green" into plants at a 2:1 converstion.

Plump helmets are a 1:1:1 converstion, so 1x Plump ->1x Green ->1x Plump, just because the green isn't stockpilable right now.

the other plants, for example Pig tails work like 2x Pig -> 2x Green ->1x (any listed plant), ok enough rambling from me :)....

And if its possible I will try to turn dead goblins and such into "Soylent Red"

Just working with the arena I've realised (in hindsight quite obviously, lol) that different creatures give different amounts of meat :/ oh this will be "Fun" to write all the Creature -> Red Gel reactions haha.

Unless anyone knows of a clear cut way to do this?

You cant affect thoughts/moods, but all the rest sounds feasonable.

I think dwarves drink 8 times more often then they eat. (either 8 or 4 times, not entirely sure) so a 1:1 exchange rate would be downright cheaty.

To use corpses simply use the fitting tags. CORPSE and REMAINS (for vermin)

Ah, so modding in positive/ negative thoughts for items isn't possible? Gotcha.

You wouldn't be ably to turn meat into plants, but just plants into other kinds of plants. So a strawberry into a plump helmet and so one.

The Red and Green Gels would be separate for meats and plants/seeds respectfully.

Thinking about it ill keep the Green gel idea, but maybe just make corpses and meat into red gel. I figured that butchering a cow, and turning its meat into red gel, then red gel into Dragon meat, could then be sold for more money. So its just meat to red gel, and they then eat the red gel. But the green can go from plants to plant, with a small loss, say 2:1?

Last I knew the current amounts were 2 units of food and 4 drinks per season.

Strictely speaking, you could give the soylent green a small chance to cause vomiting, nausea and more of that stuff which may make a dwarf cranky. (not entirely sure if it will actualy)

Also perhaps you can just make a generic meat to turn the red stuff into? Nothing like a can of spam of non-descript origin.

The spam thing was sort of the direction I wanted to go :)

I've ran into a small snag. The Workshop exists and so does the reaction to make the green Gel, but when I go to the manager screen and read the reaction itself it lists things such as "Honey" and Honey laced Container" in the reagents list :S all I told it to use were items with the plants tag and template.

If anyone can tell me how to upload pictures here I'll screen shot workshop's task screen and ill copy and paste the custom raws I've made. It seems do-able though :)

I just want to thank everyone for the positive feedback and the great ideas :D

If red gel is only for eating and nothing else, why not make it "ground meat" or "sausage" or something... real life meat-grinding ;)

imgur is a image hoster for easy sharing, you could try that one.

I recall someone making a mod with spam that could be used for construction... not that you have to do that, just an idea :P

As for your problem with the reaction, it sounds like you used the mead reaction, and didnt change the reagent names. Just change the text after REAGENT, and change the all the names in the product tags to match.

If that doesnt solve it just post your reaction raws here.

I had done Sailent Green for Deon's Wasteland mod a while back, though the current version is "milked" from a robot that "eats" grass, it is taken to a workshop and processed into random plants (at very low chances for each...so if you're lucky you'll get like 10 from 1...or very unlucky...nothing).  You can take that though and make separate reactions.  I think I have my test version lying around that took in raw plants...if you want?

You've got to be kidding me! xD haha Thanks for that, i guess it's so easy to miss the little things. It turns out that logs are classed under "[ANY_PLANT_MATERIAL][UNROTTEN]" lol, something tells me this is going to be far from straight forward, lol.

Does anyone know the tag for just food related plant items?

Just to make sure I'm on the right track ill post the actual item RAW for the Green Gel, just to let you guys laugh at me make sure the item itself is correct;

Ah I see, the examples I look at such as
"[PRODUCT:100:1:GLOB:NONE:GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT:paste:NONE][PRODUCT_PRESSED]"
Gives tags such as Globs or bars, where the Gel has only one state.
