Consider this: Gregor and Derick have a duel with same quality weapons (Iron, for example) and in neutral conditions (no terrain, supports and so on). On whom you would bet?

Derick the Swordmaster of Doom
Gregor the Tanky Stab-Sentinel

I thank the Divine Dragon that I'm not a completionist. One playthrough is usually enough for me, unless its an RPG where class, race, or ethical alignment matters.

Same here, at least nowadays.

The problem with SUPRA HARD DIFFICULTIES in a video game is, most of the time, bigger difficulty simply means bigger numbers. RPGs like FE seriously suffer from Agency Decay because the games are primarily about numbers and luck. The extra effort to program in new, different AI routines - cutthroat heuristics even more insidious than the norm - is not worth the return from a development standpoint.

When you play Fire Emblem, literally all you are doing is regressing to a set of means. The only challenge is in finding them; everything else is up to some dice. Super Platinum Lunatic Insane difficulty simply shrinks the quantity of means: "Well, shit. Character X was great in Normal, but now all my mans are dying. Time for a different spreadsheet."

Realizing 99% of "Difficulty Options" in video games are bullshit compelled me to finally stop making challenges in games and instead seek games where the challenge is already clearly defined, i.e. Dark Souls. DS is a love letter to a long forgotten time when there was no difficulty setting, means were extremely deliberate, and games taught children to regress or die.

Well said, never a fan of fake difficulty myself.

Yep. I only play harder difficulties for achievements; usually I just do a first run on normal and then the rest on the easiest difficulty. :P

For me, I played FEA on the normal setting for a bit, but it was too easy, so I started over on Hard.

Some games are actually worth playing on their highest difficulty set for me, because even though the majority of the difficulty comes from increased enemy resilience and increased player fragility, mostly it forces me to think about what I'm doing. Most of the time, I charge right in and win or die by skill and bravado. But that doesn't work on Lunatic or Legendary. So instead, I'm forced to consider my options, and do some serious long term strategizing.

Not that it's working on Chapter 2 yet. Managed to rout the southern half of the enemy twice though.

Hi Valor!
Yes, this does bleed over into most of my characters.

That said, one of the most rewarding characters I've played to date is a cowardly astromech.

Ooh, happy fun times thus ensue. ^_^

Hmmm, Charlotte can't get out this turn since Mannan is blocking the way out, so we can either Rescue her (Ami) or something else.  Gregor can reach the choke point to block them from getting back, and Derick and Marpa can wall off the Sentries.  The bright side is that Ernest only brought melee fighters with him; he can only engage with one person at a time as long as we hold either (10,17) or (10,18).

EDIT: Oh, drat, Seyena still has the Rescue stave.  Mannan can be picked up, or else Charlotte can move to (10,16) and be picked up by Gregor, though, so it's not the end of the world by any measure.  We absolutely need to heal Gregor, though; we don't want him facing down Ernest and company with only 2 HP.

If anyone takes that doorway spot I will be severely disappointed in them >:l

It's a choke with nothing but swordfighters. With healing backup and S-rank supports, I should be able to hold it all day long.
