It looks like a boat...

Maybe just have a set of breastworks for now, with a spear wall?

Isn't that a roman-type wood wall?

Yes. With better wall coming later.
Used a lot for fortifying positions.

And we can probably make a proper stone wall when the time comes.

the ditch that will oneday look like this.

                   H
                   HOOO
                   HOOO
_____            HOOO_________
        \          HOO/
          \_____HO/

Where the lines are the ground, the H's are the wood walls and the O's are dirt.

Asea, I gotta say I am impressed. This is probably the best idea I have ever heard from you. I support it.
is that a complement or a insult? i think its both but im not positive.

as for pulling it over, its called a wall of tied-together treetrunks driven into the earth.
and getting poked with spears while trying to pull it over. and its a pre-roman design.

Also you can brace it with deeper digging giving it a base and with counter facing logs pushing against the wall. That way there is no tearing down. I'm cool with spear wall as well though.

lets also get that ditch planned.
Which ditch?
The last ditch!

There is plenty of stone but it would probably be best if it was mined carefully to produce blocks, at the moment we likely just have gravel...

We do not have any spears, so the whole 'fend people off with spears' plan is not so valuable right now... Ideally the wall would be slanted back a little, and constructed from vertical planks that were sunk some way into the ground. And it's height would be important, high enough for a human to take cover behind, but low enough for a goblin to fight over. All of this indicates that we could do a lot to make a realyl good wall, but that it is too much effort for now. Lets just throw up some horizontal planks up to about a metre height? And no need to make it opaque, a fairly open fence would keep most stuff out, but have it flush with the ground so that hats can't sneak out...

We should build an outhouse where the Birthing pit is!
He did need Filth!

Except mothers will also give birth inside the outhouse as well!
It should also be the designated orgy pit, except that might spread disease, assuming that natural disease exists in this world, perhaps build an orgy sauna over the top of the birthing pit...

Spears are pretty easy to make, just sharpen a stick.

not so much if you want it to still be dangerous across a wall. The stick needs to be rigid, a lot of sticks will bend to the point of uselessness at those sorts of distances. it needs to be able to carry enough force to go through someone. You can help this by making it sharp, but that is extremely difficult if you don't have a hammer... They are going to break, so you want some consistency between them if you want experience with them to count for anything. You would be better off throwing stones...

you can stick spars between the timbers and in the bottom of the ditch...

We do not have many spears
FTFY.

And if cavemen could do it, we can.

There are many things that were practical in 'cave-man' societies that are not practical in current societies. but regardless, it is not a matter of capability but of practicality. We want to get a wall up tonight, that means a picket fence or some horizontal posts bound to less regular pickets. We can forge some proper fortifications later but anything that we build now will either be too feeble to withstand any sort of determined intrusion or too laborious to build practically at this time. Also note that the trees are in positioned along our wall, if we built a ditch there then it might damage their roots. Better to raise the land behind the wall than to lower it in front...

I was just saying we could make useable spears.

This is going to be a multiple day project, we could make spears within a few days.
