I think a creature pack full of dinosaurs, that people can just drop into their vanilla DF game would find a larger audience than a total conversion that removes tech and forces you to play in the stone age. It would even be easy to produce, if you do the total conversion anyway, you can release a second mod with just the creatures. :)

I would totally add that as an optional Jurassic Park feature into Masterwork DF. As might other people do with vanilla df. :)

My bad. Somehow my brain got convinced that this was another thread, about another dinosaur mod, which has you play in a low-tech environment. Sorry for the mix up.

Naa, it's fine. All and any replies are welcome, especially since it helps me to remember that I've still got that Triassic stuff.

Alright. Sorry, but I think I'm going to leave for the time being. I believe the files for the latest version of Age of Mammals are already posted a way's back. I'll still come by from time to time and give advice or occasionally pitch in, but for the most part I'll go back to lurking.
I'd criticize you for not getting that done but I'm doing the exact same thing.

No problem! It'll give me time to check over what we've already got. Although I probably have a lot of that anyway. :P

Can I take these dinosaurs for my own mod? And who should I give credit to?

I believe Eotyrannus coded all the dinosaurs for the main pack.

As long as credit is given, these dinosaurs are freely available for other mods (unless one of the other modders here would like to be asked first). :)

This is a really well-done and cool little add-on, Thanks a lot.

When I tried it out I thought, "Hey why am I looking at Greek and Latin words for things that dwarves named?" Nothing wrong with using the proper real human words for these creatures, but I thought it would be fun to translate them into dwarven. Maybe you all get a kick out of it too. I'll post the translations and see if there's any feedback like problems I missed, then I'll post the edited files here.

Files
Grab the files here on DFFD!

Dino Pack
First off, I attempted some standardization that our paleontology lacks. So you aren't going to see direct translations for all of these. Occasionally when combining dwarven words I've cut off a letter or two, but only if the retained letters of the word are such that if someone crazy enough to learn DF Dwarven were to read the word it would be unambiguous (much like how saurus is shortened to the suffix -saur, etc.).

Dinosaur = Bungek”ras (lizard + greatest)

Horn-face dinosaurs (ShegelŒnem Bungek”ras)
Triceratops "three horn face" - directly translated: MezshegelŒnem
Torosaurus "pierced lizard" - translated as punch instead of pierce; not a punch as in an act of violence, but a punch as in "punched out of a die" seems to fit: N“nubshegelŒnem
Pentaceratops "five horn face" - since there's no five, I made up a five from two and three: NobezshegelŒnem
Protoceratops "first horn face" - directly translated: UtharshegelŒnem

Lizard foot dinosaurs (Ngeknog Bungek”ras)
Alamosaurus - named after a place called Alamo, which referred to a cottonwood: Œkengolumngeknog
Puertasaurus - named after a place with Puerta in the name: Mistˆmngeknog
Cetiosaurus "sea monster" - directly translated: Allushanngeknog
Barosaurus "heavy lizard" - directly translated: Danmanngeknog
Diplodocus "double beam" - this refers to the spinal structure. Translated as "two spine plank": Nobl-rishemngeknog
Haplocanthosaurus "simple spined" - directly translated: Guzl-ritngeknog
Apatosaurus "deceptive" - also called brontosaurus, so translated as "deceiver thunder": Vakunamudngeknog
Opisthocoelicaudia "posterior cavity tail" - translated without reference to the posterior, since tails aren't anywhere else: G”tomkeshngeknog
Supersaurus "super lizard" - translated as "superior over": Kulsim gngeknog
Brachiosaurus "arm lizard" - directly translated: ”ntakngeknog
Camarasaurus "chamber lizard" - directly translated: Mafolngeknog

Fused dinosaurs (Kingek Bungek”ras)
Ankylosaurus "fused lizard" - to avoid it being "fused fused" I changed this to "armor fused" since it fits: Tosidkingek
Tarchia "brainy one" - directly translated: Idekingek
Polacanthus "many thorned" - directly translated: Sh…mmankurikingek

Rock headed dinosaurs (Idser Bungek”ras)
Pachycephalosaurus "thick headed" - chose "big" instead of thick: Et„gidser
Stegoceras "horned roof" - directly translated: Shegecilidser
Prenocephale "pinched head" - translated as "squeeze": ¡kthagidser

Bird foot dinosaurs (Lanlog Bungek”ras)
Hypsilophodon "hypsilophus toothed" - meaning it has teeth like a frilled lizard: ThŒdarazlanlog
Thescelosaurus "godlike" - translated as "amaze admiration": Ludoslanlog

Plate mouth dinosaurs (Kugdum Bungek”ras)
Parasaurolophus "near saurolophus ("crested lizard") - translated as if para- wasn't there: Zimkugdum
Edmontosaurus - found in the Edmonton formation, aka "king sized": Etarkugdum
Dollodon - Named after a guy named Dollo, but considered a Mantellisaurus. This seems quite out of place here. Instead considering this the Lophorhothon, "crested nose": Otamlocukugdum

Beast foot dinosaurs (Fernog Bungek”ras)
Compsognathus "dainty jaw" - translated as "simple jaw": GuztŒgilfernog
Aristosuchus "noblest Sobek" - translated just as "noble": RŒtholfernog
Saurornithoides "lizard bird form" - translated without "form": Bunglanfernog

Thief dinosaurs (Gakit Bungek”ras)
Acheroraptor "underworld thief" - directly translated: Shashgakit
Velociraptor "swift thief" - directly translated: Subetgakit
Saurornitholestes "lizard bird thief" - directly translated: Bunglangakit

Egg taker dinosaurs (”benkos Bungek”ras)
Ornithomimus "bird mimic" - dropped mimic: Lanla”benkos
Oviraptor "egg taker" - to avoid redundancy, changed it to "beak": Emuth”benkos
Chirostenotes "narrow handed" - directly translated: Otadast”benkos

Great beast lizards (Ferngek”ras)
Tyrannosaurus "tyrant lizard" - translated as "king master": K“nferngek
Tarbosaurus "alarming lizard" - translated as "surprise": Stotferngek

Winged lizards (Feshngek)
Quetzalcoatlus "feathered serpent god" - translated as "god serpent": N•mshethefeshngek
Istiodactylus "sail finger" - translated as "fin finger": Stagshi¢kfeshngek

Ancient Mammals Pack
Paleobatrachus "ancient frog" - directly translated: Zustashenog
Archaeus - I think it means "the ancient" and little else, but it's a type of pike or jack, so translated it with the words "old spike": Egarthocit
Anthropornis "man bird" - directly translated: Udolanlar
Eocypselus - a cypselomorph from the Eocene. Cypsela, Latin: "box, hollow thing". It's an ancestor of the hummingbird and swift. Translated from the words "swift bin": Subetosed
Gastornis - named after a guy named Gaston, which prob. means "stranger". Translated from the words "stranger beak", as though a dwarf saw one and said, "Who's that stranger with a beak?" before fleeing in terror, as they do: Rakasemuth
Pristichampus "saw crocodile" - croc is from "pebble worm". Translated from the words "tooth[ed] pebble worm": Razibvesrul
Saniwa - unknown etymology, but it's an ancestor to the monitor lizard, so translated from the words "warning lizard": Nis-nbungek
Giganthopis "gigantic serpent" - translated as "large serpent": Orshethel
Ambulocetus "walking sea monster" - directly translated: Berdallushang
Mesonyx "middle claw" - so-called because they had hooves with a claw in the middle, so translated from "hoof claw": Unnosinsot
Eohippus "dawn horse" - directly translated: Kodorfamthut
Coryphodon "peak tooth" - directly translated, order flipped: Razilrom

Maybe. I'm not a very enthusiastic coder/uploader, but I can fill in a half-ton of knowledge about dinosaurs. If someone can send me the templates for this lot, then I'll be able to create ALL the dahrnosauwrs:

-Land crocodylimorphs like Baurusuchus
-Aquatic crocodylimorphs like Deinosuchus
-Sea serpents like Mososaurus
-Fish/fishlike things like Icthyosaurus
-Pterosaurs like Pteranodon
-Theropods like Tyrannosaurus
-Sauropeltians like Ankylosaurus
-Sauropods like Puertasaurus
-Pachycephalosaurs like Stegoceras
-Duck-bills like Iguanodon
-Ceratopsians like Triceratops
-Thyreophorans like Stegosaurus
-Basal ornithopods like Hypsilophodon

Other things needed will be neck sails, body sails, tail clubs, however many tail spikes, however many body spikes, feathers, scales, armour, however many fingers, thumb spikes, tail-crests, crests, long tails, short tails, beaks and arm stubs.

Looks like everything's good, so I edited the files, which you can find here on DFFD. I hope someone gets as much a kick out of it as I have!

Thanks for the translations! I thought it was pretty weird too, but I didn't know enough to fix it. Making an alt file with dwarven names.
I am not a particularly enthusiastic coder either, but I can try to do something in a reasonable amount of time.
