ArmA 3
« on: March 04, 2013, 06:57:49 pm »

I figured this would matter enough to some people and was separate enough from ArmA 2 to warrant a thread of its own.

Link to Website

ArmA 3 is about to launch, sort of, as an alpha, available on Steam Tuesday (tomorrow, maybe today for some of the world). You have to pay into it, but there's a few options available, from 25 euros to join the alpha, beta, and to get the game when it's released plus 3 guest passes for the alpha, to 70 euros for that plus a whole lot of other goodies including getting all future DLC for free, a digital soundtrack, and every single game and DLC in the ArmA franchise so far.

As for some of the new features present in ArmA 3, I'll let Dslyecxi, founder of ShackTac, avid ArmA gamer, and worker for BIStudios, show the rest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiLXDwsVlXg

Edit: A nice video by Dslyecxi detailing why ArmA 3 is something you should maybe be interested in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcbQk5VXKNE

Edit 2: Now in Beta.

Edit 3: Now 'Out'.

On the 14th the people who pre-purchased the game will get alpha codes they can send to friends so they can try a 'lite' version of the game.

EDIT: Just got around to watching this video. I'm liking just about everything it shows. The parallax sights just makes the icing on the cake =p

I'm interested but I'm also afraid.  Arma is big on graphics and I've never had a game this computer couldn't run.  I'm afraid of my computer's mortality.

The general idea is that if you can run ARMA 2, you can run ARMA 3 but better.

Speaking of that Steam thing, you won't be able to play this game if you do not have Steam, sorry. You can purchase it from other places such as the Bi store, but you can only play it thought Steam. Offline mode is supposedly going to be supported, but it will still be through steam. This is probably put some people off.

On the "must have Steam" thing, from what I hear, the licensing works slightly differently if you buy through Steam, versus buying from BI and activating on Steam.  Apparently the later results in fees paid to Steam for retailing, while the latter only results in fees of distribution.

If you'd like more of your money to go to Bohemia, buy from them instead.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll probably buy direct from Bohemia, just to show the love.

I'm personally psyched about all the changes I see. Even at this stage, the game looks amazing like ArmA and ArmA 2 did when they came out and then some.

If anyone does have an spare alpha lite invite, think about me. I promise to spread it and/or even send it back.  :P

Btw, there are a couple of new threads in BI forums about giveaways and kindly asking for invites, here they are:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147450-The-Official-Arma-3-Alpha-Giveaway-Thread! -> for giveaways
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147430-Looking-for-Arma-3-Free-Alpha-invites-Look-here! -> for asking for invites.

If somebody is looking for a lite invite thats a good place to check.

I bought 2 copies from BI but they only gave me 1 key so far, so I will have one to give away whenever their customer support catches up to what appears to be a tsunami of purchases. Also, obviously some alpha lite keys when those become available in 2 weeks or so.
