Apparently I got an email as of Oct 16 saying that my 1st Soylent shipment has been delayed 6-8 weeks from today [Oct 16] due to ingredient shortages due to high demand. Don't know if anyone else got an email like this.

Bummer. Life on campus at college has made soylent more appealing than ever.

I do hope it doesn't take forever for them to get their production meeting demand.  I don't think anyone expected it to be as high as it has been.

Soylent 1.2 is completely free of animal product, after replacing its oil blend.

So I got my first batch of Soylent. Trying it out this morning.

Ordered the week's worth, looks like it has 7 pouches, and 7 bottles of oil blend, one bottle for each pouch. Each pouch says it has 3 servings in it. They average that one pouch of soylent lasts up to 2 days, depending on the consumer's metabolism and whatnot. They include a 2 liter pitcher you can use to make an entire batch by using a whole pouch and water. Alternatively they include a metal measuring cup you can use to scoop out a single meal from a pouch, which can be resealed like a zip-loc bag. One cup's worth of soylent mixed with one cup's worth of water makes approximately one meal, according to the instructions included.

I went with making "one meal", since I'm not that hungry this morning and I'm only trying it out instead of living on it. I just poured the appropriate amounts of soylent and water into a glass and stirred it up with a spoon. It's grainy, probably because I used a spoon to stir and mix it up instead of a more indepth method like shaking it or using a blender. Also, I used cold water, maybe it mixes better with warmer, or at least room-temperature water.

As far as flavor goes, it's not bad. Smelled nice when I opened the bag. Smells like vanilla. Tastes sorta vannilla-ish. Like vanilla and oats. I tried adding a bit of maple syrup to mine on a whim, didn't make much difference but that's probably cause I didn't add too much.

My biggest complaint so far is just the texture is weird. And if you don't mix it well it can have lumps of powder. But that can probably be avoided by mixing it well, like shaking it up in an airtight container (like the pitcher they provide to first time orders) or using a blender.

The texture is off-putting at first, but I got used to it quickly.  I actually like the chunks now.

I'm on a 14 pouch per month subscription, and I'm finding I have surplus, even though it's something like 60% of my diet now.  I have 24 bags stored behind me right now.

I'm not feeling overwhelmingly different after drinking it for a couple months.  I think my stomach has shrank a bit.  But it's also holiday season, with a lot of birthdays in my family mixed in as well.  So there's been a lot of feasts and indulgent food about, and peak season at work has been a ton of stress, counter-acting any positive effects of Soylent on my body.

But I am really enjoying the convenience of it.  After a few minutes mixing up a batch, I have food that I can pour and consume in a matter of seconds available for the next couple days, because I just make it by the pitcher.  I haven't figured out a good way to incorporate the oil blend when making just a cup at a time.

Quick google search turned up several articles summarizing the benefits of families sharing meals together. Benefits included:

Everyone eats healthier meals.
Kids are less likely to become overweight or obese.
Kids more likely to stay away from cigarettes.
They're less likely to drink alcohol.
They won't likely try marijuana.
They're less likely to use illicit drugs.
Friends won't likely abuse prescription drugs.
School grades will be better.
You and your kids will talk more.
You'll be more likely to hear about a serious problem.
Kids will feel like you're proud of them.
There will be less stress and tension at home.

I haven't figured out a good way to incorporate the oil blend when making just a cup at a time.
I read in the manual thingy that one cup at a time uses ~1.5 teaspoons of oil blend. So if you have a teaspoon for measurement you can just use that.

Also apparently the manual recommends 2 cups of water when mixing a single meal serving, not just one like what I did. Explains why mine seemed thick then, the ratio of mix to water was probably off.

I can see this being really useful for a quick breakfast, at least.

I'm eating breakfast regularly for the first time in my life.  I normally can't handle solid food until I've been up for a couple hours.

It's got this grainy-oatsy-vanilla taste. Like bread, but with a hint of vanilla. Not bad. I've puked worse tasting stuff than that.

Yeah... it's sort of like drinking liquified bread... and it's really weird at first, but not because it's a bad taste.  And like bread, it's easy to apply whatever other flavors you want to it.

Have you read anything, or do you mean the people that don't take Soylent?

Actually, what does ass taste like? I imagine it'd be similar to horse, but that's not exactly a great starting point.
