To Know, or Not to Know? A Poem.
« on: March 21, 2013, 03:07:36 pm »

Again, I awake, to the sound of naught
Bringing endlessly neither day nor night
About my chamber, paradise now gleams
Plants come where no fabled bright, white light shines
From which animals thrive, and I from them
But phantoms who taunt me endlessly. Sun! Sky!
Paradise gleam, death cannot come, before
Afraid for paradise health, little now
When or whence I come not known, leave the same.
But the phantoms taunt me endlessly. Sun!
Paradise gleam, death come, I cannot stay.
And I leave, to see a distraught earth, no life
Oh! What death, tragedy! In my last day.
A plague, death. I ask, "To know, or not to know?"

Oh! This day. This final day I wonder.
Needless invisible power, belief.
Oh! Endless torment of belief, is gone.
My own way I make, to think for myself.
Above me shines the fabled bright, white light.
It does not grow, causes many great fires.
I see all. Crags, ruins, sickening sight.
Sight of demise, full of our rotting mire.
Paradise gleam, gone forever this day.
One moves, at steady pace, confident gait.
He approaches, "There are more, unseen."
With him I go, my last act, and secure.
No despair, I know I forever live.
Phantoms taunt me endlessly. No more! No more!
I have seen. The Sun! The World!
Is this death? I can bear it, I can!
Paradise gleam. The answer clears. To know.

Inspired by Neil deGrasse Tyson.
