So is it possible in the current version of the game to make a completely self-sustaining fortress in the circus? If so, can the fortress keep growing through baby-making forever? If that is also possible, then would the inhabitants still be in the fort if it was visited in adventure mode?

You can farm on muddy tiles, and fabricate unlimited metal for clothing with magma forges.
You can grow up to the point where you can't feed everybody anymore.

If you keep the dwarves happy, you don't even need coffins.

You can grow up to the point where you can't feed everybody anymore.

At what point does that occur? Is there a fixed limit or does it depend on the size of the fortress and the availability of tiles to make muddy?

Also if an adventurer goes into the circus fortress, will the game recognize that it's sealed off or will it spawn clowns inside anyway because it counts as the circus and that is where clowns are generated?
