Seems like Orange is in need of a certain Twilight-obsessed unicorn mare to organize EVERYTHING at ALL TIMES so that nopony can remember the last time they had any time to themselves or went a day without hearing about how many crates or six-packs of Sparkle Cola need to be opened RIGHT NOW.
Just imagine a mare, a lot like Twilight personality-wise, who tries as hard as possible to be exactly like her adorkable lavender idol based only on what scant information survived until today.

Oh Luna, you have sparked a short story(yay you all know my storytelling is good)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's perfect, exactly like I imagined my poni to be. Considering her dislike of being TARDY, and the fact that Replica hasn't had a suitable poni show up yet, I'd imagine her to be quite upset when she finally arrives at Orange. (Maybe she was scavenging for Twilight Sparkle-related items and lost track of time... For several weeks...)

But others might prefer to have the mess contained behind windows to avoid tracking blood all over the their nice, color coordinated floor patterns. Kind of the Ozzy Osborne vs. Martha Stewart debate.

Maklak:

>Personally I'd merge sniper and gunner squads for now (I had good results with combat and hunting rifles) or at the very least put that sniper in a squad where she will get some cross-training in defensive skills.

What? No!
Once the VR is set up snipers need to train there NONSTOP, I'll set that reaction to run on repeat all the time.
And other skills wont be all that important, if I got my super valuable AMR snipers in melee then I'd be a shitty commander.

>>On another hoof I had the greatest idea ever, war trainable slaves.
>Meh, those will be pretty weak. It's better to cage trap some wildlife and try to domesticate it.

Oh not as war animals, war trainable so that I can assign them to whoever I want instead of putting them up for adoption.
Because slavery is magic.

>> 1 - Internal Affairs (Security Team)
>Tell me more about this. Is this a single weak pony with a wooden blunt weapon and no training?

Guess so, except I'll be using them as guards perhaps.
Haven't figured out what I want to do with the security team, still a bit early on to matter.

>Some fights are won by kicks to the head, but it's generally better to give them some weapons. I use chainsaws, because they are plenty, cause bleeding and often sever body parts.

Yeah well, I'll give them nothing at all because I am anal about assigning military castes weapons other than the one they specialize in.

>That's quite a lot of salvage. I got about that much good stuff in about 3 years.

Because of the shitty embarks you insist on going to.
Savage evil swamps I tells you.

>Hm, no steel or bronze and almost out of coal. You must be smelting scrap into iron. Bronze is about as good and more fuel-efficient.

Prismatic Smelter, smelting all the scrap since there is really not much I can do with it otherwise.
Haven't used a single unit of fuel.
When opening coal boxes you actually get coal in the form of boulders, which I still haven't touched (save for perhaps once).

>As for selling chainsaws, I'd keep any masterworks and sell lower quality ones. If I wasn't selling prepared meals instead, that is.

Of course, never sell masterwork weapons and armor.

>There's hardly any armour, but hey, pipbucks and gas masks for everypony.

Not yet anyways.
Soon I will have all the armor I'll ever want. c:
You wouldn't happen to remember if gas masks fit under security helmets and if gas masks make the units immune to pink cloud or if they need the full hazmat getup to live through it?

>You have the Protectapony AI gems, which, along with some cheap parts, can upgrade Protectaponies to make them better. 3 of them in fact, if you want to keep one AI gem to copy it later (I forgot and run out:( ).

Don't think I need to copy any gems with the salvage I get, and I'm not so sure how the robotics industry work, but this is good info, gonna try and get robotics up and running within the next few sessions.

Edit: Also, the three new player character screens are up.

> Sniper training.
Well, VRS is one way to do it, but I'm still a fun of taking pot-shots at wildlife because it gave me good results. I set up a barracks next to my entrance and told the gunner / sniper squad to train there. They did individual combat drills and demonstrations and got some dodge and mace skill. Meanwhile they shot at anything that came close and due to high learning rate bonus from cutie marks got legendary+5 in 2 years. Gunners used combat rifles and snipers used hunting rifles. The downside of this method is wasting some medium calibre ammo and putting them at risk.

> Smelting.
Well, if you have prismatic smelter, you should be able to make steel and go for combat armour, skipping security entirely, but it WILL take more scrap than bronze security armours that I'm a big fan of. Scrap makes 1.6 bars of iron, but 4 bars of bronze with "smelt bronze from ore".

> You wouldn't happen to remember if gas masks fit under security helmets and if gas masks make the units immune to pink cloud or if they need the full hazmat getup to live through it?
From what I saw gas masks won't protect ponies from even regular irradiated storms. They should fit with security or combat helmets just fine, but not the powered ones which have gas mask built in.
I don't know if hazmat protects from pink cloud. It adds a syndrome that does something with irradiated interactions, but I haven't dug through it. Check your "raw/objects/item_armor.txt" to see if hazmat will fit under security and combat armour. There were some changes to that file from patch to patch as I argued about it.

> Protectaponies MK2
This is actually the easiest and cheapest thing to upgrade after mines and strapping explosives to Sprite-bots. Expensive robots are the ones that need miniguns. Protectaponies just need an AI gem (which can be copied at the Talisman Forge), wiring, battery, steel plate and a protectapony. This will:
* Give it steel "skin" instead of aluminium, increasing robustness and survivability.
* Increase Agility, Spatial and Kinaesthetic sense by 500 each (to 1k and 1.5k, respectively).
* Shorten the wait period on it's 3 lasers from 300 to 200 TUs.
* Increase Throw and Ranged combat from 4 to 6 and give it 2 Situational Awareness.

You can't make those from scratch (there is a minigun version instead), but war trained protectaponies mk2 should prove quite price-effective and ultimately every imported protectapony should undergo an upgrade. Those are like mobile turrets and unlike Mr Macintosh robots don't have a flamethrower, which to me makes Protectaponies more desirable.

The shortage of ammo and miniguns makes me use them for battle saddles first (because those can be recycled after the user dies) and I don't like flamethrowers for their setting the map on fire while often doing nothing to enemies, so my robot industry is going to be pretty limited. Oh and I never open medium calibre ammo crates. Those are too difficult to make.

Options that I don't have, because the only real wildlife on the surface are bloodwings and giant radscorpions and the entire site is ravaged by the ebola virus cloud on a frequent basis.
Maybe that will be viable if I get around to building a tower to station ranged units on and if protective gear protects units from pink cloud, because then I'll just be able to station my snipers on a high point and gun everything down like I did in Lemon, otherwise any military training that has to do with the surface is a no go for me.

I don't have to save on iron, so making my gear out of iron is fine.
And perhaps I could... but steel is harder to get a hold of, even with all the furniture to smelt, and I wont be able to fully gear my militia with it.
Still going to gear my best soldiers with steel gear however.

>Gas masks

Guess this takes testing.

> Protectaponies MK2

That is cheap... and protectaponies are a good force multiplier when attached to soldiers.

Well, if you live in the wasteland and you're stuck in a Stable, there's not much else to do is there?

Yeah, their rage settings aren't high enough, but I've noted that down.

Nothing protects against Pink Cloud, as Puppysmiles discovered on the Last Day.

All in all the Stable's building up quite nicely...your dormitory setup is especially impressive. :)

Nothing?

Oh, well, then that means that I will never be able to secure the surface permanently, I'll forever be forced to hide under ground.
At most I'll be able to build a sniper tower, and perhaps a small secluded above ground farming area, but no grazers (until I make an underground grazing area with moss) and absolutely no bees.

On the other hand, now I know that siegers wont be able to camp out on the surface forever either, because if not even the steel rangers with all their PA and rebreathers live through ebola... heh heh heh... There are good times ahead indeed...

Also, I don't need my personal unicorn slaves to be good at anything, I just want them as personal escorts.
Their job will be to just sit there and look pretty, preferably with a nice collar around their neck with a big nice metal tag reading "PROPERTY OF REPLICA" on the front. ;D
Heh, I swear, that by the end of this, with my war trainable standard sprite-bots, I'll have a whole entourage following Replica around.

Edit: Oh, and I updated the OP with all current player skills, every single one of them.
Wont update that regularly, but every now and then (when I feel arsed and am just idling around with nothing to do) I'll update them, new players will get theirs updated the next time I update skills.
Not that I get many new applicants these days. :P

I'm interested in your results on securing the surface, because I suspect radiation storms can pass through walls. My wall around the embark with a fortification 1 tile outside of it doesn't stop storms. So how high does a wall need to be to stop them?

From the !SCIENCE! I've conducted, Rad-storms only go up two-three z-levels past their original z-level.

Unicorn Slaves? What- nevermind. Replica will have an entire mob of cold, metallic, emotionless Sprite-bots following him around, while everyone/pony else will have normal, fleshy, emotionfull Slaves following them around.

After reading this, I feel like we will be the new Paradise Falls/Old Appaloosa of the wastes.

You can't "secure the surface" per see on this embark, the ebola virus storm will still spawn wherever, and that is as dangerous to the enemy as it is to you.

But you can secure a small piece of it by building a wall around your little spot and then building a roof to cover it all, the tiles there will still count as surface tiles for the purposes of above ground farming (but not for beekeeping) and you will be protected by storms, weather and fliers (which will still fly over your 4+ z level walls).
The sniper tower will follow the same design: vertical tower with fortifications on top sealed off from fliers by a roof at the top.

Maybe you could build a tower on stilts and farm on top of it. Farming works with muddied floors, right?

Yep, that'd be problematic and require more in terms of engineering and micromanagement.
I could designate floors as ponds and have ponies dump water on the floor (I hear that's supposed to be a viable way to muddy floors), and then I'd only have to build a single vertical tower instead of adding an extra section to the tower at ground level, but that can end up being a bit risky.
So I'll probably just go with building a smaller area at ground level for farms, even if it will end up being a bit cramped and segmented by boulder tiles (which can't be farmed on unless muddied).

Fix to boulders(That I found) Build over them, it should get rid of them.
