I've never had any troubles landing near the space center personally, but we can call kerbin safe if you really have that much trouble.
Really? If you use a reentry vehicle that's just a command pod and a parachute you can consistently land within 1km of KSC?  :o

I guess my concern is mostly that if you splash down in the ocean (which is probably the most sensible thing to do with a reentry vehicle like that), there isn't really even a way to legitimately rescue a Kerbal in a pod in the middle of the ocean. We're already assuming some sort of recovery capability for dropped off parts, so this doesn't seem like such a stretch to me.

Mechjeb can land anywhere you want to, including the KSP. So if you really want to you can just use that.

Considering most of my craft are either SSTO, spaceplanes, or both, I rarely have trouble landing within the vicinity of the KSC, unless I derp really hard.

Ah... KSP sounds like a lot of fun, I don't yet have it. Should I?

You seem to be missing the Projects section.
Projects section?

Ahh, should be 'operations' I'll change that. Construction of multipart stations/bases are handled as an operation since they require multiple launches/stages.

Sure, assuming I have sufficient control of the lander's attitude prior to separation. In fact I do that all the time. I could demonstrate doing it manually if you like.

Not everyone has that level of ability though.  It's fairly assumed that Kearth has a wide-reaching population who have simply become invisible.  If they're capable of going into space, they should be capable of renting a boat to retrieve a command capsule 2km offshore.  And if it's too far, there's -someone- living on that part of the planet who can.

Agreed, so any landing on kerbin/kearth is safe. Science missions only need to land intact to complete.

Also hey girlinhat, you're first. Go make with the rokkits.

Oh right, did I not include the link to the save? derp. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9910241/KSPR2_Initial.zip

How do I... use this?  It's just got a save and a plugins folder.  So I've got my usual set of parts available.
