You can be human, so you can use pike. Plus, you could still know the skill even if you can't use it anymore.

Also, there anyone here who does NOT know how to swim?

I can swim, just not very well. But I survive well enough in pools and in shallow waters :)

Just for reference and to match the others, here's my (rough) skills list:

Novice Swimmer (can do fine in water, but don't ask me to swim a mile)
Novice Crossbow (entering as human, so not Marksdwarf?)
Dabbling Ambusher
Anything related to being a student.
Novice/Dabbling Teacher, too, I suppose.
Novice/Dabbling Wound Dresser
Novice/Dabbling Cook
Dabbling Fighter/Striker/Kicker/Wrestler/Dodger/etc.

This is for my Human laborer, so go figure.

Don't think of him as "your human laborer", think of him as YOU. Oh yeah, and you might want to give your gender. I know that this forum's not a boys' club.

I suppose I'll be human. Not like I have any Dorfy skills, after all.

Meaning Pikeman, not spearman.

Well, nice to know, but I think that today, the person completely helpless in water is the exception and not the rule, so it might be shorter to only list exceptional or non-swimmers.

Hence why I mentioned it in my skillsheet.

Well, I've taken some time to assemble what I think is an appropriate skill list for myself, aside from social skill, which I don't think I qualify for in most senses.

Someone else is going to need to do the fortress play-through, because I have only 1 hour to be on a computer each day.
