the OP made it sound like we had to be either a dwarf or a human....

and if this is restarting, i would still like to be an Elf.

as for skills, competent wound dresser, bone setter and suturer please + Adept swimmer.

and of course, as a female :)

Okay. What can I do in real-life? I have a lot of skills at "Dabbling" as I can do them, but they are not my primary hobbies/occupations.

- I'm an avid video gamer. Not much application here.
- I am a talented (if inexperienced) cook. that's useful!
- I can organize ANYTHING and make it more efficient. Organizer.
- I also have a bit of experience screwing around with wood

So... I'd like a dwarf human with high organizer skill, low cooking skill and woodcrafting enabled but not trained.

(Not a dwarf, as I rarely drink)

You already are.  You are only dwarf or human if it was unspecified in the prior thread.  I have ElfCollaborator set as an elf, because that was the lowest in total of his hybrid stats.

Vell! Could write me in, I think an elf would be cool. Running through my skills, I have trained horses (trained both mine and a few others) so probably adiquete animal trainer , I know the basic of forging as in I've seen videos and read stuff but never done, so dabbling armor, weapon and metal crafting cuzz its similer but I've looked at all 3, novice cook, I'm pretty good at it just not experienced with a lot of dishes, novice clothier? I can sew wellish, dabbling architech? Playing dwarf fort? :p uMm think that's about all, of and as a female of course

Skills. Hm.

Let's look over the list, shall we, and ignore the ones I'd be no good at whatsoever.

I'd be unskilled but enthusiastic at carpentry.
I'm kinda sneaky, sometimes with people walking past without noticing me...dabbling ambusher?
I have done a number of dissections, so Novice Animal and Fish Dissector. Maybe Dabbling Butcher, if that would be applicable.
Novice Animal Caretaker, perhaps.
I'm pretty good at cooking; just wait till the dwarves try my egg and quarry bush casserole! Let's say...competant to skilled??
Dabbling Fisher.
I suppose I've whittled enough to claim Dabbling to Novice Woodcrafting.
Talented Swimmer. I like swimming and am good at it. (Sadly, there's no SCUBA skill.)
Dabbling to Novice organizer. Higher if it doesn't have to make sense to others.
Some level of record keeper.
Novice, maybe Adequate dodging and perhaps some unarmed combat skills.
Dabbling Bowman.
Some level of Crossbowmanship to represent my firearms experience.
A bit of Archery as well.
A fair level in Comedian.
Excellent level in Concentration and Student.
Decent Military Tactics.
Wordsmith? Maybe.
Decent skill at Writing.
Legendary Reader. Did I ever tell you about the time in high school I read all seven Harry Potter books in one week , only during the school day?

Oh, and human.
And Zan, think that DFhack could manage that thing we were talking about?

Hm... You know, After reading the first two over four hours during a camping trip when I was 12(?) I haven't really compared my reading skills. I keep meaning to see if I read all of them in a 24hr period...

I didn't really add that since in playing DF you pretty much need to be competent/talented (by historical standpoint). I should binge read Tolkien again.

Could I make a non-major race character? For instance, a magma man?

He immediately begins to beavergoat the man quite thoroughly! At the very beginning, the man is mystified by James' actions, but his face quickly becomes a mask of horror when the procedure starts!

"OH GODS WHY? WHYYY?"

After a twenty minute session, the man is left white as a sheet, hairless and completely and utterly dead. James congratulates himself on a job well done!

Probably not, given that magma-men aren't sentient. Believe me, this is probably going to become very weird, but for the sake of story, you wind up not to far from human when you arrive. Kobold at furthest. Crazy stuff can happen later, for instance in the first story it's lead to us having among our fort (I think) an android, a ghost, a partial avatar of Death, and someone split in half, one half becoming a dragon and the other an eldricht abomination. For now, though, as part of your humble start, likely main races only.

If I'm being completely honest, probably the following:

Dwarf.

Dabbling Ambusher
Novice Animal Caretaker
Novice Animal Trainer
Novice Diagnostician
Novice Wound Dresser
Adequate Cook
Adequate Herbalist
Novice Tanner
Dabbling Leatherworker
Dabbling Potter
Novice Mechanic
Novice Siege Engineer
Dabbling Siege Operator
Adequate Swimmer
Adequate Building Designer
Competent Organizer
Proficient Record-Keeper
Novice Crossbowman
Novice Dodger
Dabbling Fighter
Novice Spearman
Novice Conversationalist
Novice Intimidator
Novice Judge of Intent
Skilled Liar
Competent Negotiator
Novice Concentration
Novice Leader
Proficient Reader
Skilled Student
Competent Teacher

Some of the more unusual ones I will explain. The few times I've used a gun, I think I'm a very good shot(though I have little to compare to). I have a book called 'How to Survive Alone in The Woods' which helps with some. I pole-vault, which is like using a pike(it trains similar muscles, at least), but dwarves can't use pikes, so spearman is the closest. Dodger...I roll well with falls. I've taken an interest in siege mechanics, as well, so i know the rudiments of trebuchets, catapults, and thus something of how to make and/or use one. The rest I think are personal evalutation or not that unusual for someone to know.

You can be human, so you can use pike. Plus, you could still know the skill even if you can't use it anymore.

Also, there anyone here who does NOT know how to swim?

I don't. But I cook pretty darn well, too. Competent at most.

Plus dabbling engraver.
