You are cursed. You feel terrible!

When you get cursed by a mummy, what does that mean? What actually happens?

Basically, the mummy's curse causes you to utterly fail 20% of your attack or defense rolls in combat. It's like playing DnD with a D20 that has a 1 painted on four of the sides; you have a 20% chance of instant failure.

Actually, it just reduces your skills to 20% effectiveness, which is actually worse.

Scratch that, my mistake, misread the syndrome.

Yeah you might as well set yourself on fire and die or else retire. Or don't bother, either way your adventure will end and death will find your character. Quicker than usual.

Yup. 20% of ANY skill check, be it attack, dodge, maybe even crafting I don't actually know, will become a Critical Failure, and you will probably end up exploding in shrapnel. Best to just go retire or commit Honorable Seppuku, since, yeah, as mentioned, your adventurer is fucked. There is NO way to un-curse yourself or even mitigate the effects, and it lasts forever and ever. I don't even think retiring and unretiring gets rid of it. Basically, rocks fall everyone dies. I think the best way to actually deal with mummies is to stay in invis mode, and somehow convince someone else to actually trigger the mummy reveal event, then get the FUCK out of the way while he curses the person who disturbed his slumber, and dodge all the skelertons while sniping him with your 88 sharpened rocks. Or necromancy. Animating all the skeletons before he can is usually hilarious.

Yes, even if you're legendary+250

Just go and quit.

Huh, you would have thought they would have mentioned this all on the wiki.  Thanks for the answers, guys.

Wow!  That's rough!  Hopefully someday there will be a cool way to lessen the curse, and a difficult way break it completely.

Lessen maybe with special plants like lotr.  Break maybe by slaying the mummy, find it's removed organs and burn them or just hit it with an iron maul until it's pulped.

I think the purpose of the curse is to last a little while. Simply killing the mummy wouldn't do. Maybe you would have to bring the main organs of the mummy (heart and brain) to a specialist in the Mountain Homes to brew something (alternative is that your cooking is high enough as an adventurer to make something to fix it).

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

I had thought the curse was actually meant to be a massive "go die in a hole" from the mummy. There may be ways to negate it in the future, but right now you still have the option of disabling vanilla disturbance interactions and using only your own custom ones which have a definite end, and there's also the possibility of making an interaction that works as a luck-buff, although that still wouldn't necessarily guarantee that the mummy's curse is negated.

Mummies are friendly when you're a necromancer/vampire though, due to mummies having OPPOSED_TO_LIFE and you being dead/nonliving.

Try amassing an army of mummy debuffers and watch the resulting bloodshed.

You can just mod out or replace the mummies with more fair versions.

In making even more powerful but also more fair enemies?

Still void. Mummies are weak things. Without their curses they are powerless.
Conventional combat does not work with them. Indeed the best bet is to flee.
This is good.
