'Papers, Please' (A Dystopian Document Thriller)
« on: April 11, 2013, 05:51:15 am »

Now on steam!
I have recently been playing this indie.

From the website:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It is morbidly fun desperately trying to earn a living by stopping others from entering your country, where they think things are so much better. With in three days on my first go; half my family was frozen, sick and starving. I blame these dirty immigrants! Although the game is a work in progress it is still very fun.

Playing this now, it's pretty interesting.

EDIT: I just finished the beta, and this game is really interesting. I can't wait to see where it goes.

It's very good and challenging. I like how the dev is clearly inspired by Covert Action.

A good reason to try this. ( Covert action inspired )

Among the other reason to also try it.  8)

God damn it. I have no words. I've only started day 5, and my soul already feels horribly crushed. Mind you I seem to be a lean, mean, passport checking machine, but it's not worth the trade off. I can't wait to see where he goes, mostly because I have no clue where he can go.

FAKEDIT: This is also the guy who made The Republia Times. I am not surprised in the slightest.

REAL EDIT: Why game. Why...

Ah, this game! I got into it right at the first alpha release. Good to see he's still working on it!

Is there anything you can do about somebody who doesn't have any papers? I tried closing the shutters and whatnot but I couldn't do anything.

If Cthulhu worked at that checkpoint, he would have his soul crushed. The guy who made this, and Republia Times is awesome at crafting games about soul-crushing, regime-serving jobs (although Republia Times got bonus points for being Winston Smith: The Game).

Just played through it, and my god do the searches suck. I really hope there won't be any more of those in the full game.

This.

I love that one old guy with the crayon-drawn passport. He's so cheerful!

Mind saying how to fix it so that I can play the rest of the game?

Use inspection mode, highlight the law requiring passports, then highlight the table.

use the inspection/compare button on the rule in the rule book pertaining to needing papers and also the empty box under the window where papers get put.
