citizen vs citizen
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:19:20 pm »

I've been playing DF for many years, but I've never had this.
Zero reason why one citizen just went off and beat the $#!t out of another citizen.
Looked at relationship (after they were dead) and no grudge or anything... so odd.

GAH! Never mind... that archer is the capt. of the guard, and that builder probably didn't do a mandate or something.

Oh wow, your dwarves are prosecuting a police brutality case. That's pretty awesome, I've gotta say. If I were you I'd intervene before the poor sap gets hammered and starts a tantrum spiral. Maybe lock him in a private cell with food and drink?

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.

There is a simple fix for this. Just convict the witness.

Tailor "Um sir.. you just beat that man's brains in."
Cpt of Guard "No, YOU just beat that man's brains in. Thanks for confessing to the Guard! Oh boy the paperwork on this one."
Tailor "I am genetically incapable of disagreeing."
Cpt of Guard "Justice is served."

It kind of shows that the current state of dwarven '...Justice' is not intended - beatings are not supposed to be deadly, that's why the usual 'death from justice beating' results in a murder charge when observed.

Yes, i'd totally convict the mayor or at least the captain of the guard. Better set up a chain or the punishment will 'downgrade' to yet another murder by brainpunch.

Edit: my first close encounter with dwarven justice was the classic 'lift then reinstate export ban' trick which cost me six or seven dwarfs. After i lured the king into the prison and locked him in there until he dehydrated (he was reasonably happy until the end, because the chain was quite beautiful), i convicted him of all the murders. I also once relieved and convicted a captain of the guard of a murder on duty. He got to spend 250ish days chained outside between the archers and their targets, but at least i made sure to keep provisions in his reach.
