Doesn't our dwarf friend read Demonic? Get a translation before we start dicking around with buttons.

Doesn't our dwarf friend read Demonic? Get a translation before we start dicking around with buttons.

According to CHARLIE the symbols spell out "lock".
You decide that this is as good a time as any to note the symbols that you know, so you jot them down on a blank page in BLACK-HAND JACK'S JOURNAL.

Where is the pirate corpse? we were supposed to take that.
Press reset.

JESSE has already retrieved the CORPSE.
You press the BUTTON while CHARLIE attempts to destroy the obstruction.
He reports that if his current progress holds steady, the way should be clear in two to six weeks.

The BUTTON slides down, revealing a SCREEN.
The screen, though it appears to be illuminated, does not lighten the room in any way.

Wait 10 minutes or so. If something obviously hostile shows up, press yes. If nothing does, the screen is likely referring to us so select no.

Kill time by getting Jessie to monologue about the sword and it's significance.

I think it would make more sense for the alert to be about something on the other side of the door. Why give intruders the access to the panel meant to deal with intruders?

It is referring to us. remember, one of our party members is trying to cut through the door. this could be anticipated as a threat to whatever controls the lock.

Yet, why would we be able to control it?

Ignore panel.

I am willing to guess that we are able to control the panel BECAUSE we have also committed the act of 'grand-theft-arcana'. red hand jack probably made it so ONLY people who have committed that crime can operate it.

Kill time by getting Jessie to monologue about the sword and it's significance.

You decide to leave the screen for now, and instead ask JESSE about the DIVINE SWORD.

JESSE exposits that the sword once belonged to his ANCIENT ANCESTORS, who were favored by the GOD OF ILLUMINATION.
According to tales from his childhood the sword was created during a time when VEGA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS took the land for his own. The Prince was eventually beaten back when the warrior ADALANX THE SPARKLY, crusader of Light and JESSE'S great-great-great-great grandfather, slew his AVATAR in combat.
He says that the sword, crafted with the power of a God, should be able to cut through anything touched by the foul hand of darkness.

...Anything...

->

JESSE slashes the DEMONIC SYMBOLS protecting the STONE OBSTRUCTION, and CHARLIE blasts through easily.
The way ahead is now unblocked.

After climbing through the destroyed obstruction, you walk for several minutes down another dull featureless hallway, who's only noteworthy is its exceptional dull featurelessness.
After travelling several dozens of meters, the scant light begins to dim even further.
You see what you think is a human ahead, but it is hard to see.

I'm a bit worried by the perspective...I'm getting a distinct ogre/giant vibe...

It's probably a halfling, now that you said that.

Also, since when was one of Charlie's hands blue?

Time for the incredibly useful Wizard Light.
