Shores of Hazeron (new thread with the last updates)
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:17:12 pm »

as far i see the last threads about this game are scattered throught the forum, and they're pretty outdated so i take the time to make a new thread with updated information:

game welcome page: http://www.hazeron.com/welcome.html

update news: http://www.hazeron.com/update.html

Shores of Hazeron is an space sandbox game with the current content:

-procedurally generated galaxy with stars, planets of different types, moons and even ringworlds

-player made races, flora and fauna have procedurally generated DNA which is gatherable, also fauna and flora of planets have their own ecosystems and food chains

-almost realistic physics (planets have orbits, gravity defined by planet radius and mass, etcetera, note that we dont have liquid manipulation, at least not yet)

-deep crafting system (from simple stone based tools to spaceship components)

-players can create races and empires of their own, or play an extant race and empire

-players can design their own buildings (new feature added this month) and their own spaceships

-two types of camera views an FPS mode for common gameplay and an strategic bird's view for things like city building and resource mapping

-several vehicles (a bike, a suv, a rocket, a sail ship and other more)

-players can fight for cities both in land and in space

-space travel with several options (warpdrives, rockets, gravity drives, wormhole travel)

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

I wish they would add aquatic species and underwater bases.

I played a while back, then quit because I sucked at the game. I could barely get to space. Too much supply trees.
I would get back into it if there was a larger Bay12 presence though.

Is it still a complete and utter lagfest?

Ah, Shores of Hazeron... I come back to it every year or so, and I want to love it so badly.

However every time I try it, it turns out to be a completely unplayable lagfest. SoH may well be too ambitious for today's technology.

I'd much prefer it in DF-esque ASCII.
May sound crazy, but 3D is just too ambitious for today's technology, quoted the gentleman whose name I'm too lazy to look down for. (sorry mate)

I stopped playing for three reasons
1) I built a spaceship and got stranded on the moon
2) I lost access to my city
3) The people I was playing with wouldn't give me a salary for my own city because apparently my 500 dollars a click would destabilize the economy.

Also this game is weird in the sense that universities are USELESS! unless they fixed it.

Did they also fix planetary defense?

Sorta, I think. Maybe not yet. But now you have to design your own buildings, so now you have to build your own Weapon Base(replaces all three original bases). I don't know how it works.

They also added stairs for ships.

Sadly, I have difficulty playing. Not just the lag, the game also seems to disrupt my internet connection, even in the offline ship editor, and from what I've read on the forums, it's something I can't fix.

Wow, this game is still alive. Is it still dominated by troll-politics? Did they fix the lag? :P

If they fixed the lag and made the graphics a bit less gouge-your-own-eyes-out bad, it could be a really fun game.

3) The people I was playing with wouldn't give me a salary for my own city because apparently my 500 dollars a click would destabilize the economy.

All you do is set up a ship that you captain to buy hydrogen (free for ships) and sell electricity to the city (for 1 credit).

I made millions...

I didn't own a ship.

I only ended up getting a ship because someone GAVE me one.

Which sort of ruins the point of the game.
