The game needed a new designer that much was true.  What it didn't need was a poor 3D modeling program to use as a ship designer, and building designer.  With the only option using public/shared designs.  Which could have been fine, but it took the community some time to even get some public designs to fill nearly all roles for buildings and ships.  I knew plenty of people who made 1-2 building designs then just made them multipurpose.  Not even good looking designs, giant blocks or underground structures.

Basically made it too hard to use, then got around people not being able to use it by making it easy to just make 1 thing do 100 things.  It's like looking at desire paths and putting walls across them, then putting escalators to go over the walls.  Doesn't look good and a waste of time to make or use.

Yeah. The new designer was it for me. Still followed the development but I liked making my own stuff and I liked not having to learn janky CAD software to do so.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

I learned how to use the designer. Granted, since I've already uninstalled it, I might have accidentally deleted my designs. My ships were crap, but I did make some neat-looking buildings, including a hostile-environment farm that provided two jobs(4,000m2) yet was small enough to fit on a planetoid without causing overcrowding penalties.

i think we would have fare better with a prefab based system instead of a full designer but well, that was Haxus choice. its sad to see Hazeron go into the night like this but honestly, it fared well for a game made since the 90s. my only gripe is that we never get someone to follow on the legacy. it only needs some changes to adapt into modern times, it would have been the closest to have a multiplayer version of SPORE imo.

Well uh...he is working on servers coming back

Don't think they are actually back yet, but he is setting them up.

That is pretty news worthy of a bump I feel

Same, but it is back. With a caveat. Currently gotta remember your account/password. Luckily remembered mine, took a few guesses to what I had used though. But yeah. Can't make a new account (yet).

I remembered mine!

I haven't tried to get in game yet, but there's a few things I did notice. Downloading of the game files from the launcher was vastly faster than I remember the last time I installed this. And no, it wasn't the old files from the last time, it definitely downloaded new files. The Primordial World option(the singleplayer explore-a-planet thing) is gone. The Gen IV avatars are still not functional. You have to login to access the offline designer, I don't remember that being the case last time. And my blueprints are still there.

EDIT: I was actually 100% wrong on that one, my bad.

EDIT2: There was an update today, to both Shores of Hazeron and Hazeron Starship. One of the patch notes for starship:

Quote
No Sex in Hazeron Starship
It is no longer possible to procreate in the solo game and indigenous people are always fully clothed. I wasn't happy with the Steam version being classified as adult only, like a movie rated X. This would severely limit the potential audience and those adults who did play would be disappointed if they expected to find something pornographic in this adult software.

Thats probably for the best. Not only was it a little weird to me and unneeded, people on steam would expect a porno game and troll the review system cause of that

it kind of was porno.  especially with the "new" humanoid character creation thing.
dunno why he did it in the first place. defiantly made me not want to try get anyone else I knew to play it.

Just standard Haxus stuff. Dude’s the definition of “eccentric” after all.

I can see the reasoning behind adding it — making the game more of an in-depth simulation as he envisioned it. Kind of like some features in Dwarf Fortress.
But the uh. Sex mechanic, was just weird. Strange, off-putting; ultimately completely tangential and nearly irrelevant to the rest of the game design.

If only steam somehow made him re-add the old designer. I’m still salty.

Pretty sure that at this point the entire format of how ships and buildings are saved and processed in-game are completely different from the old designer. Not impossible, necessarily, to make an editor that feels like the old one, but converts it into the current format, but I don't see anyone taking the time for that.

And speaking of the designer, I've been spending most of my week trying to re-learn using it. Having a slightly frustrating problem where the spaceship designer thinks it's the building designer and vice versa. The spaceship designer has a ground texture below the craft, which makes it impossible to see the bottom, and trying to preview the build just sticks my head under it and I can't do anything.

Another thing the designer needs is, particularly when viewing just the wireframes, to have differently colored lines to differentiate between the different types of shapes. Kind of hard to tell if a particular edge is the hull, room, or room void.
