Dwarf Fortress Talk #21: Feedback
« on: May 23, 2013, 05:31:52 am »

The twenty-first one has been posted.

Any comments about the format, content, quality, etc. of the call are welcome.

We don't currently have arrangements for a transcript, so that'll need to be worked out in some way over the course of the thread.

Would be nice if the file could be shared through torrent as well, right now download speed is pretty slow here.

Perfect timing for a tired walk home after work.  Thanks!

Could someone throw me a direct link? College network blocks the main page, and I need to listen to it for research purposes and not at all because I'm slacking off from doing work.

College network blocks the dwarf fortress website? Yeah, as if it's *that* popular! :D

I guess the problem is they filter any top-level URL with the string 'games' in it...

Another great episode! I'm really exited about the new combat system, and the conversation system sounds awesome too.

The audio levels were better this time, but Rainseeker sounded a bit distorted... maybe it's a problem with his microphone.

Harder for me to understand it as I'm a poor French lady who can only read (and write), but hardly understand it without subtitles. :p

Could someone give me the main topics, and the new ideas developed by Toady and Threetoes (and Scamps) ?

There should be a full transcript posted soon. I think Mallocs still does those?

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

I'll try, it was a pretty cruel teaser of the new version!  Mostly they talked about the new combat changes in detail (movement/combat speed split, action timings, reactions etc.) and occupation & conversation & companion systems in detail.  Most new information, for me, was regarding the rather complex sounding timing mechanics of combat and conversation.  Everything sounds extremely cool.  There will be much more depth to adventure mode gameplay/combat and some more serious roleplaying sounds possible.  They also talked about the fortress mode changes (fort retirement, deep sites and hill dwarves etc.) which we mostly knew about I think.

There were lots of questions but they mostly seemed to be of the "will you implement this feature?" variety??

If you listen to the talk, be warned it will make the wait until release unbearable.    :'( :'(  :P

I'm afraid he doesn't anymore- last DF Talk a transcript got crowdsourced from thread followers, which will hopefully happen again as I always miss things just listening to it.
