Spilled guts?! Walk it off!
« on: May 28, 2013, 03:30:14 pm »

So I decided to make an adventurer. Quest #1, slay werewolf. Snuck in circles until dawn, walked in and had my men stab him to death. Walked back, got the glory, decided to go under the capitol castle made of gold blocks. Randomly attacked by some humans and got my guts spilled.

I retire and rest a while as a peasant(dafuq?).

I wake up in the street with my guts still spilled and shrug, assuming they had thought of my attempt to break the game. I slept for eight hours and did not bleed out. Puzzled, I slept another eight and then waited eight(whilst eating and drinking), none of my intestines or anything were damaged somehow.

Apparently I have an unlimited wellspring of blood and a pain tolerance beyond ridiculous. I actually ran out of water on my second sleeping and drank some of my own blood to hydrate myself.

I have evolved into a self-sufficient organism.

I am okay with this. I'm very slow but the 'mortal wound' flashing letters don't seem to matter. Besides, I am a sneaky character anyway. If I wanted speed I'd play something other than an... Elf... I am going to now attempt to kill some bandits for laughs.

Wish me luck.

Anyone else experienced this odd occurrence?

Retirement must work like fast traveling.  I assume that if you fast travel while your guts are spilled but before you bleed out, something similar would happen.

The game treats spilled guts kind of strangely when it comes to health care anyway.  The fixing that doctors do in fort mode still doesn't put guts back in, in m experience, and I guess adventure mode doesn't do anything with them aside from stopping bleeding if you fast travel.

My guts are still out.

I am the magical immortal blood snail. I leave behind 3 tiles of silvery elf blood that vanish when I move too far away. It is still flashing "Mortal Wound" in the bottom right and Im a bit slower than I used to be, but that's a small price to pay for an infinite wellspring of elf blood to drink from when I'm thirsty.

Bandit: "Oy, boss, you wan'ta see this." [The bandit hands him a spyglass.]

Dulosh Splitteredsplattered: "Dear Armok, look at 'is chest! Thur's jus' a hole goin' through an' his guts're fallin' out--..."

Bandit: "What is it, boss?"

Dulosh Splitteredsplattered: "'Es lookin' right at us. Smiling. I think we'd better go."

[Moments later, Dulosh Splitteredsplattered was killed by a spinning alpaca leather sandal.]

...... That settles it. After the simulation is completed(if it ever is) we will need a wild and wacky mode where this sort of none sense will continue to happen.  :o

Just wait until some wrestler grabs those guts. Or better yet, until a wolf bites and latches on... then shakes.

I just had my primary adventurer vivisect a couple of my other adventurers, and found that cutting the guts away eliminates the speed penalty and the Mortal Wound flag.
Sadly, intestinal amputation also gets rid of the whole 'infinite blood source' aspect of having your guts hang out, so its usefulness is somewhat limited.

I think 'spilled' guts are just hanging out of the abdomen. Extremely unrealistic (the pain alone would be unbearable), but the game seems to assume they haven't been pierced and are thus still functional. The silvery stuff on the ground are your intestines, trailing behind you as you walk...

At least for opponents, getting the spilled guts chopped off is a death sentence. I haven't seen one case where this treatment _didn't_ lead to bleeding out.

Here's a quick and low-effort test that proves your statement to be wrong:
Go to a necromancer's tower. Lure a necromancer or two into wilderness outside the tower, then strangle them unconscious, spill and amputate their guts. Enter sneaking mode and fast-travel away in the ten or so turns before they bleed out.
When you return to the tower, you'll notice that the necromancers you've operated on are alive and moving as fast as they did before the operation.

I would assume removing organs would make you even harder to kill. They can't make you sick by hitting you in the kidney if you ain't got one. This sounds like a possible thing to test on your followers.

Guts are the only thing that can be removed right now I believe.  Other organs can't be cut out in combat yet.   :(

Though, guts are the primary source of nausea related impacts so removing them seems like a fair part of any training scheme.

I performed another experiment as per Deepblade's request. This time, I put [UNDER_PRESSURE] in the heart's tags, then spilled the heart of a disposable adventurer, amputated it and fast-travelled away before the test subject bled out.
Test subjects have proven to live quite well even without a heart, but they exhibit a noticeable slowdown due to having a mortal wound:

(She's without armor and weapons on the second screen, so she sould have somewhere around 1100-1200 speed)

I'm surprised to find that retiring with your guts spilled stops the bleeding. Normally, having your guts spilled is 100% guaranteed to be fatal because the bleeding from the lower body never stops. I've tested that aspect of it extensively. Even an incredibly light blood loss of oozing or something won't cease over time.

Alright, so just to make sure you don't suddenly die when enough of your organs are amputated, I modded stomach, pancreas, liver, spleen, kidneys and guts to be non-internal and cut them all away, then modded them to be internal again. The test subjects seem to live, eat and drink as normal, with an added bonus of being extremely hard to nauseate.

Apparently, in this game the gastrointestinal tract's only function is making you weak.

There are anecdotes about Vietcong members who put their spilled guts into a helmet, strapped it round their waist and kept fighting.  Not sure if it's true at all though!
