Fire Emblem on Forums: The Nature of Humans: IC thread
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:45:42 pm »

This is the IC thread for FEF: The Nature of Humans. If you want to apply or just comment, the OoC thread is here. All comments and questions should be directed there. This thread is for official roleplay and battle only!

Post formatting is mandatory here too!
"Anything you say should be colored and in quotation marks."
If you just want to think, italicize.

Plain text is for descriptions and fluff.
Bold your text when you're giving orders.

Don't post in this thread unless I tell you your character is in. Violations will result in a thread ban.

In battle, the game progresses in two phases.
Player phase: Players post, and I respond until all active players have made a turn. If a player is inactive for a lengthy period of time (generally two days or longer since the most recent Enemy phase post), other players may be asked to move inactives. Once all players have made their actions, Enemy phase begins.
Enemy phase: I make a super post where I throw every bad guy on the map at you guys. Once that's done, I'll post a new map, update HP, and if you guys leveled in the last two phases, I'll roll that. Rinse and repeat until the current map is clear.

Win Conditions you may see:
Survive for X turns: All you need to do is stand your ground for a set number of turns. Or, you could try and rout the enemy, whatever floats your boat.
Defeat the Enemy: Kill every last enemy on the map to proceed.
Defeat the Boss: Slay the boss unit on the map. I'll make it clear who s/he is.

~~Prologue: A Prudent Flight~~

The land of Durhiel is in turmoil. Exstenese soldiers sweep across the open plains, taking the military and civilians alike by surprise. Drahool, King of Durhiel, sits in disbelief as his advisers inform him of the enormous losses. It seems the invaders will not be stopped. The proud king considers his options as the Extenese forces draw near the Capital...
~~~
A weary looking soldier with dented armor spoke to the king. He stank of blood and death. "My liege, I bring news from the front. The Exstenese make for the Capital. They will arrive in four days at the earliest by my estimate."
Drahool sat on his throne, one hand supporting his chin as he surveyed a map of the kingdom. "Bah, they are implacable. How are they doing this to us? Our cavalry should be routing them at every turn."
"They had overwhelming numbers, my liege. Four men to each of ours. I cannot fathom the logistics behind it. Even the mightiest man can be claimed by fatigue on the field of battle."
Another soldier moved toward the king, kneeling. "Sire! Your daughter, Princess Diana awaits in the hall."
"Send her in. I fear there is little more talking will do as of now in any case."
The Princess, along with the captain of the guard, Zayn, were ushered into the war room. The King's wartime advisers were clustered around a sand table, depicting the kingdom. Red Markers littered the eastern section of the map, and several of them were placed on blocks depicting major cities. It was a grim sight.
Diana is in!
Diana followed Zayn in, looking worried and nervous as she pushed her way to her father's side. A glance at the map did nothing to allay her fears; rather, they intensified them. Although the answer seemed apparent, she felt she had to ask the question anyway.
"Father, the rumors the maids are whispering... are they true? Has the war really come to our doors?"
The King frowned. Rumor mongering was not something the castle needed at the moment. He'd have to sort it out later. "Yes. The worst has come. This castle itself will soon see battle, in all likelihood. That's why I am sending you away."
"...Where are you sending me away to?"
Diana balled her fists, her expression somehow both angry and sad. She couldn't disobey her father if he really thought sending her away was for the best... but she couldn't dispel the disheartening idea that this might be the last time she would ever see him and she didn't want to believe that.
"I am sending you to Castle Ulfijan to wait out the conflict. We shall break their momentum here, and then our horsemen will turn them back. In the meantime, however, this castle shall be like to a slaughterhouse. It is my wish that you be somewhere safe."
"You will travel in disguise, along with a light guard. A pair of seasoned knights, along with some green troops. Do try not to draw attention to yourself."
King Drahool stood, and embraced his daughter. "Diana, you are one of my dearest treasures. Be safe, and please, don't argue."
Diana nodded, despite her misgivings, and returned the hug as strongly as she could.
"I love you, Father. Please stay safe while I'm gone."
She managed to put a smile on her face for him and kissed his cheek.
"I'm sure we'll see each other again within a month's time."
"I should go pack a few things. Where do I meet the escort at?"
"The escort has been instructed to wait for you in the courtyard. Depart when you are ready. And hurry, dear daughter. I have much to do, and my mind will rest easier knowing you are safe and on your way."
Meanwhile, in the yard, three soldiers of Durhiel awaited a pair of knights and their charge, the princess Diana.
Tyrn, Freya, and Otiros are in!
"Farewell, Father. I'll pray for your success."
Diana hurried back to her room, where she fetched her slim sword out of its hiding place underneath her mattress. She buckled it onto her waist under cloak, stuffed some clothes into her pack and made her way down to the courtyard where her escort waited.
"Good day, Freya, Tyrn, Otiros."
She was just in too melancholy and pensive of a mood for more elaborate greetings right now.
Otiros presented a salute and nodded.
"Salutations, M'lady! May I know what is wrong?"
The princess sighed at Otiros's question.
"I... I don't like the idea of leaving this castle. Leaving my home, my father, some of my friends behind."
She looked at Tyrn and smiled briefly. Between the three of her escorts, she knew him the best; his adopted father, Zayn, had taught her to use a sword as he trained Tyrn, so they could almost be considered rivals. At least, sometimes she viewed him as one; she'd yet to trounce him during practice sessions because his weapon was just naturally superior to hers. Or so she would claim whenever pressed about it.
"I'm glad to have you along, as well."
Tyrn's face softened at hearing the princess's concerns.
"All will be well milady. Let us focus on getting you somewhere safe for now."
"I certainly hope so. Is everyone prepared to move out?"
She had a weapon and some healing powder, although she had no idea how to use the latter. As far as she could tell, one just flung it at wounds and they healed.
"We have to, princess. But you shouldn't worry, I am quite sure everything will be fine. They just want to make sure you will stay safe. And I believe everyone is ready, M'lady!"
