Ok semi-quick question.

Is creating Masterwork ally races the same as modding normal non-evil entities in vanilla?
By which I mean if I were to follow the same steps of civ creation I normally would, would they use the new diplomacy improvements like trade reps and embassy access? Or would that require Dfhack wizardry I don't even vaguely possess?

IIRC, trade reps need to be fixed in the raws on a per-civ basis, and embassy reactions needed to be added to the raws.  The embassy does use DFHack, but I don't think you would need to actually understand DFHack to add reactions - just look at the existing reactions and copy the template.

Ah, thanks Brilliand, I'll go do some modding soon then.

Also if you or anyone else is wondering what I want to add, its a race I made before in vanilla known as the Thoht.

The Thoht are a race of Uruk sized humanoids with no faces other then a basic mouth, talons on both hands and feet, and crazy regenerative powers ([HEALINGRATE:1] and max recuperation to boot). Their biology also replaces the typical skeletal system with pure cartilage and all fat with the dreaded sponge. This makes them nearly pain and fire immune. Their unique senses allow them to see without eyes, and even navigate within magma (they have been known to SWIM UP MAGMACANNONS, with few ill effects. Ok never actually tested the magmacannon bit, but in arena they can survive for a hilariously long time in magma, and they have [LOCKPICKER] and [BUILDINGDESTROYER] so I assume it would be at least vaguely possible for them to gain entry that way.)

They live in glaciers, tundras and generally any place you would find the mods Frost Giants, who the Thoht will act as a bit of a foil to. This will be reflected in a Frost Giant specific Syndrome in the Thoht blood (Thoht blood is gaseous) that would cause immolation. Against other foes Thoht blood does not cause this combustion, but is cold enough to cause problems for most other races.

Thoht culture is equally strange. Their society's social strata are defined by previous military service, and is loosely based on the Qunari of Dragon Age fame.
Some major variations from this are the fact that Thoht eat their dead, and consider lying to be utterly unthinkable.

As for technology, Thoht are mostly tribal, but quite skilled in the art of weapon forging. They use Volcanic Greatswords and Greathammers (I would like for them to dual wield these, but don't know if its possible to force.) however their armor is not quite so advanced, consisting of leather, and at best lamellar versions thereof. The concept of shields are alien to the Thoht, however most are agile and skilled enough in dodging to make up for this.
All Thoht wear masks and turbans (assuming those are still in the mod) around the other races to hide their disturbing features.

You could simply create a dual-wielded greatsword weapon, sort of like what dwarves do in Orc Fortress with their crossbow/melee weapon combo weapons.

The current version of Dwarf Fortress doesn't really handle dual wielding in a satisfying way.  They just attack with whichever weapon is higher in the inventory list almost all the time, never with both in one turn, nor is there any obvious "thought" given to which weapon to use.  That is why Orc Fortress has the Dwarven Legion and Orcish Warrior Society dual weapon kits.  From Toady's devlogs it seems dual wielding might work better in the upcoming release.  I'll believe it when i see it :)  Certainly weapon & fighting behavior will change a lot, in a good way.

Sword & Hammer is a tricky dual kit to make, because there is a hard coded preference to use EDGE attacks over BLUNT by a factor of 100 or something.  This mechanic is what makes pommel strikes rare.

Lol, well obviously...I mean if you wanted other races in it, you would have put them in the mod to begin with, ala fortress defense :P
But that said, it is nice to add personal flair to the DF world, even the masterwork one, thus my creation of the Thoht.
This thread was to find out if I was gonna break the mod by adding them.
