Music to Fortress too
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:49:00 pm »

I doubt many of you actually keep the ingame music file active. I found a way to disable it after my first half hour of play.  ;)

My idea for this thread came as I was listening to Pandora, which spawned a song called "Covenant -- Winter Comes". The beat and lyrics reminded me instantly of Dwarf Fortress, and ever since it has been added to my collection.  ;)

Anyone else?

In the Hall of the Mountain King.  The ultimate delving music.   :)

Dark Saga by Iced Earth, excellent for all sorts of ass-kicking, from the pillaging to the burning, and whatever else goes on. It's a bit more suited to solo play, themewise, but IMHO great for all sorts of mayhem. If Mount & Blade ever gets finished and has a story, I sure hope this becomes their theme song, too.

If you're looking for a theme music for your first fortress attempt, I'd recommend the soundtrack of Requiem For A Dream.

Falconer.  "A Quest for the Crown", "Lord of the Blacksmiths", "The Past Still Lives On" ... heck the whole damn CD is appropriate.

I need to buy more of their music.

Blackmore's Night - World of Stone.
Now THAT is almost an ideal theme song.
Medieval melody, low chanting...
What lyrics tell about are : crossbows, stone, vengeance, unity. Quite fitting.

And trying to put heavy rock songs everywhere is totally half-assed.

It would be kind of amusing to put "The Anvil Chorus" in there.

I kind of like the in-game music though, it penetrates the psyche.

Oh, and of course there is this.  Which is Tom Waits' interpretation of the Heigh Ho song from Snow White.

I like listening to Classical music when I play games of this nature. Something about Vivaldi...

Notorious B.I.G., "Ready to Die"

There is no more appropriate song for any roguelike game.

Wait... Vivaldi?????

I thoroughly apologize for resurrecting this crusty dead ancient thread, but I just had to comment. Seriously, I hope nobody is building their fortress to fucking Vivaldi!

Choose something grand, like Mahler or Webern... or even Wagner.
