do men have periods
« on: June 21, 2013, 04:15:16 am »

Quote
Most of my point, however, is that the first thing women go to when a random man is acting odd is not, in fact "is their penis bothering them today" (even though I'm sure some men have some real problems with that)
I was reading a thread, after seeing an interesting quote in someone's signature (it wasn't this one), and I can across this. So my question is: I know men don't have literal periods (on account of having no ovaries, duh) but do they still have the same basic cycle? And if so, how much does it affect them?

Men do not have a period or any sort of monthly cycle.

Not naturally, but I have a week long period every month where I cannot work and become extremely paranoid of other people. Therefore man period.

Men do not have a period or any sort of monthly cycle.

They do, however, have all of the other fairly standard hormonal cycles that the body works with, most of which are admittedly short than a month.

I'm not sure what the cutting edge research has to say on the matter, but I think it's largely accepted that some men experience PMS like symptoms.  It manifests in different ways for everyone and not necessarily in the ways it does for women, supposedly.  Naturally, since there's no easily observed physical manifestation to go along with it, it's harder to recognize for what it is.

Anecdotally I was musing over the idea I was experiencing it myself yesterday.  I got intensely angry over a relatively small matter that normally wouldn't bother me, and later on while watching TV I felt a lot more sad about some plot elements in the show than I normally would.  I was probably just having an off day, but you never know.

Here you are.  Read away.

I'm pretty sure you completely missed the point of this quote.

I might have some kind of cycle, I'm always pissed off and somewhat annoyed after all.

That's called sanity. Beware those who don't know enough to be pissed off.

I think it's actually really cool that this thread has more or less ended on a competent answer when there is so much derail potential. When it popped up, I was expecting guys complaining about girls and beer period jokes. But so far, science prevails.

Not to derail, but Darkmere, from your avatar and text (though that should read YO HEY YO) I recon you like LEXX, which is really cool (possibly S4 less so) and almost forgotten. I really liked that too, was a good show.

At least once or twice a month I get into a rut where all I can think about is finding someone to have children with, but that's probably because I have a strong desire to have children and because I have high testosterone. I won't go into detail about it but it's kind of annoying because it happens at least once or twice a month every month, and even more so when the weather is warm.

I really misinterpreted that the first time I read it, and got the picture that you actually went ahead and impregnated someone "once or twice a month."  :P
