Squadron 42 has a roadmap....for its roadmap.

I feel like the $50 or whatever I backed 8 years ago is almost being paid back in the form of the popcorn value of watching this thing spin its wheels. At some point, new ship sales have to dry up. There can't be an infinite number of wealthy rubes out there to fund them indefinitely. Wonder what'll happen when that day arrives.

Even IF Squadron 42 releases at some point.....it will be the buggiest, most unstable pile of garbo ever made by man.

Sadly in cases like this it's usually a very small number of 'whales' which either have immense disposable income or very little willpower. Some have legitimate mental issues which make them susceptible to this sort of scheme and they spend so much it harms them financially but they cannot stop themselves. It's an issue with most forms of ingame purchase.

Well, once a market has been established, those profiting will involuntarily prop it up.  The secret is to get out before the market closes.

Legit question: what's the current state of the game?
Anything playable?
Can't really be arsed to search through a million youtube videos or their forum full of fanatics.

Define playable. When I last looked there were several pieces of a game, all of which were playable, but nothing cohesive

If you define "playable" as "a thing that can be played", it certainly reached that point years ago.

I mean you can move packages, board stations and kill pirate ships if you find the right missions, if you don't mind severe desync issues, but the things are there.

It's the shell of a game atm.

Last time I played, earlier this year, I fell out of my ship while in hyperspace and had to respawn where I started, losing the forty minutes it took to try to move from the starting space station to where I was, plus a hefty load of in-game cash for "insurance". I opted not to go back.

Playable: I can actually fly a ship in space and shoot at something without catastrophic crashes or game-ending bugs.

Then no. It is not playable by your definition.

To be fair, by his definition of playable I can think of several AAA games which weren't playable on launch. I still save skyrim every few minutes just in case.

Lol fair enough. I think he meant that shouldn't happen every time he flies into space and shoots at something, which is closer to the star citizen experience.
