AutumnToday horrible news for us honest working dwarves trying to make a decent living un-accosted by the vile radical children. One of our warrior dwarves was struck down by them.
The child was on top of the body when everyone converged with a gleeful look on his face. When it questioned it had the gall to accuse an animal trainer, a hard-working dwarf of this evil. Boy are these children stupid. "Billy did you break the lamp" "NOOOOO, A RACCOON RAN IN THROUGH THE DOOR AND STABBED THE LAMP IT WASN'T ME GO AWAY". I quickly and expeditiously convicted him. All these murders are really racking up. I have postponed the work on the jails for too long. I must begin before all these criminals tide over us.
I have begun work on the jail immediately. I remember when i was studying human culture for my PhD, of reading an article about experimentation in human prisons and how they use prisoners as guinea pigs. The particular article I was reading had to do with lead. And that gave me a great idea. I ran over to the architects and metalcrafters; I could not trust to build this prison cause of course they would put back doors for their fellow criminals to escape but nor regular criminal dwarfs; anyway, I pitched them the idea of building a completely lead prison, and told them that the humans do such things with their prisons to make them distinguishable. Everybody seemed ecstatic with the idea. It seems we have a big stock of lead bars so this should not be too much of a problem.
Celebrate while you still can you cretin, soon we will have both the camp and the prison complete to deal with you little criminals.
A dwarf today by the name of Mafol Ulzestiden ( I have begun to learn the names of the respectable people in town) was seen muttering and running into a workshop screaming Praise the lord!
Hopefully this does not cause any trouble since I can't have anyone detain him if he snaps.
People have been complaining about a pack of Dingoes as they call them, that have encamped themselves on the southern shore. I really would not be paying them much attention if they were not interrupting the path of our labour working on the lighthouse. (note to self the children labourers have been getting more and more lazy. I ordered the military to kill them and to scout for enemies just in case. They came back with this report.
Beside the weird notice that the merchants that haven't left, apparently there has been a forgotten beast that has been living under our town for quite a while. No one in the previous leading positions seem to have even bothered to deal with it. I asked the military to show me where the monster was.
It seems to be in a cavern hidden behind a wall of raw adamantine. I decided against engaging it since it would put the town in a vulnerable position and I did not see any way that the children could be used in any ways so for now the beast will be left alone. After the fight with the dingoes and this a lot of our military seemed rather lackluster and unhappy so i gave them a couple of months leave to uplift their sad faces. I'm sure if any trouble arises like a siege (hahahahahahaah no fucken way) they will come running.
(occ: should i or should i not send the military to kill the beast i am rather unsure )
I am pleasantly astounded. Today is a great day for dwarven dwarfiness.
Our crazy dwarf came out presenting this, it is beyond beauty and worth a good penny. I have estimated that this thing alone accounts for 10% of all our combined Gross Domestic Product (human term, I just find it silly) There will be much celebration in the weeks to come.
Even Further good news came today.
9 migrants arrived to take the place of some of our recently *cough* deceased. And the even better news, there are no children among them to plague us further. H.....{ there is an ink spot and some scribbles and some blank space}
AHHHH damnation! This place can't be happy for long can it. I just returned from some commotion outside. It seems one of our masons has disappeared never to be seen again. I suspect the children but i don't have enough evidence to convict anyone. Why do they plague me so?
Even further bad news today. One of our esteemed military dwarves was found dead amongst his comrades in arms.
Unbelievably there were no witnesses and no evidence. The children are getting sneakier and sneakier. Luckily I managed to "find" some evidence and convict a child. With this news I have decided to expedite the construction of the jail as much as possible (which isn't much at all). Between the horrible children "accidentally" getting in the way and the lack of a big metal crafting population work is slow.
(ooc: i really don't know why there is such a huge crime spree on my turn, like seriously dwarves are killing each other left and right for a seal skin left boot.)
This is horrible, it seems I have underestimated the the need of lead that this jail would pose. I have ordered all smelters to smelt and melt down lead and hopefully this will help but I fear the jail will not be complete by the end of the year. I can hear the children gleefully laughing at my predicament. I must stay strong just to spite them.
The dwarven caravan arrived today. I hope they bring bars of lead.
I am severely disappointed. I traded away our rotting clothes that were littering the streets for newer clothes. We also ran out of wood in my attempts to build beds so I bought wood from them as well. This also means we will be running out of charcoal soon, so I have begun excavations into alternative smelters and forges. There is a magma chamber way down that should do nicely for our purposes. Preliminary digging is in progress but caution is needed.
Today I have received the best of news. The cons camp has been completely outfitted to house all the children of the town.
This is phenomenal as now we can keep a better eye on the radical children and even institute curfew if need be. (ooc: i made a burrow that corresponds to the camp so if you need to bring all the children together you can just send them all to the camp. also i guess that's where we can place our civilian alert if need be.)
The light house seems to be nearly complete. except we are still waiting on the glass that will be placed in the shining light part.
As seen her one of the top levels is already complete. Sadly apparently our dwarven nation has yet to invent a save method of illumination or fire so the glass will have to reflect the moonlight to distinguish our position to ships. I have taken it to move me and my love's bed to the top of the lighthouse. I will be making my residence there and eventually retire as lighthouse keeper. The light house reaches as high as out dormitory "skyscraper". I am extremely proud of it.
(ooc: i made it as high as the sky cap, which i didn't even know there WAS a sky cap, also how do i fire?)
Winter is upon us. Sadly i am not even close to finishing the jail and I believe it will not be done by the end of the year. But I have managed to complete a single prototype cell so that we will have an example to work of of in the future.
Isn't it beautiful?
Everything is made out of lead; the floors, the walls, the table, the chair, the statues guarding the outside, the door so criminals have a harder time pushing it out, the well which is not built yet. The only thing not lead is the bed since dwarves have this odd superstition that any bed not made out of wood is an unholy abomination.
This the actual jail-house complex. Also made out of lead, except the roof.(that's granite). All that it requires is some furnishing. And so Winter has come.
