I like the stairs ( and the "X" having a stair like appearance ) may I suggest maybe an outline for dwarves? or at least their icon

as in your bedrooms/dining hall example thee peasant and metal-smith? dwarves sleeping in their beds are only noticeable due to their darker beards.

but the walls and floors look amazing

PS
where is your avatar from? I swear I've seen it before (movie? Tv show?)

Thanks for your response. The avatar is Yun from the star wars game Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II.  It was a silly game but I played it for a long time. I use him as my online mild mannered alter ego : )

*edit* Now that you mention it though.. that picture does make him look like the guy from Burn Notice...

*edit* A quick search on imdb brought up Rafer Weigel : )

I'll see what I can do about outlining the dwarves so they can be more apparent... Thank you again.

Here I'm testing bigger beards and I gave them an aura... lets just call it dwarf sweat for now. I'm also testing water effects.

What do you think? I also tried an inverse version where the beards were brighter and the skin darker... they were kinda hard to see so I let that one go :P.

The dwarves stand out a little better now, not super easy but they stand out now.
Better then before that is for sure.

I absolutely love your floor tiles! In my tileset i wanted to make floors look like something other than just a simple cross but your idea is simply awesome! Also outlined dwarf tiles are very nice too!

Thank you, but if you look at Teeto_k you will see where I got the idea for the floor tiles...

So  I went a little crazy and made some pretty drastic changes. Take a look at these ant tell me what you think.

Tileset Updated:

Changes:
-Changed (15,10) Bed's to look similar to the ones from Grim Fortress by lightrow. Cool style.
-Changed (15,14) to look more like a needle and a spool of thread.
-Changed (11,8) to look more like a bolt of cloth.
-Fixed the aura problem with (1,8) or the stone. Now it seems to look correct in the workshops but it will lack an aura/blood/vomit outline. As some other things will. I might do away with this aura stuff... but I think it looks dang cool : )

Possible Future Changes:
-Miasma and glass windows look less than par, but the rock walls look awesome. I'm not sure which way to lean.
-Some tiles still need better images (boulders, trees, and the like).
-If I am feeling ambitious I might go through and change all the lettering to be more squarish/wider.

I could use some testers and constructive criticism. I know people are reading this post... I'd love to hear what people think (good or bad).

I'll take her for a spin, got a mod in the testing that is ASCII right now so it'll fit nicely.

I've noticed tree tiles are a bit hard to see sometimes in wide open fields. Not sure what you can do to make trees stand out a bit. But with the next version of DF trees look to be completely redone. (or at least the giant ones, donno about little trees being in there.) Other then that i've had no real time to get into a more indepth play test as of yet

Tileset Updated:

This might be it for me...  Goodbye you awesome community of dwarf fortress :( Thank you all for the comments and support. I would have played dwarf fortress forever, but I realize I'm a victim to the wills of my friends... and it seems none of them understand the beauty that is dwarf fortress despite my missionary efforts for their conversion... *sigh* I could use some geekier friends. I will continue to sing the praises of dwarf fortress to all I meet in hopes to find someone who might appreciate why I laugh when the children's farm gets flooded with magma. Until then, I might not be as avid a player. I'll still stalk and ninja the forums in the background, and I'll monitor this post. If you notice any blatant changes that need to be made let me know and I'll fix em'. Otherwise... Adieu.

It's like the bishop that skips church to golf on Sunday and gets a hole in one. Who can he tell about it? I got no one to talk to about dwarf fortress :(

I'm pretty sure most of us have that problem. It still doesn't stop me from playing.
