Dungeon of Blood (a Rogue like hack and slash)
« on: July 17, 2013, 06:29:11 am »

Not exactly a new project, but I let the old topic die and there's been a ton of changes.
Old topic for reference link
Here's the change log so you know what I mean by a ton of changes

And here's some pictures in case you thought this was just a virus or something.

Keep in mind that the game is very much an alpha which means placeholder graphics and sounds are all over the place and some game mechanics might not be fully functional if not out right broken.

A help file containing stuff like a list of controls is included in the download, speaking of downloads.
Download

Any ideas on what I should do next?

Seems to work fine for me so I don't know if it's anything I can fix.

Download link works for me as well.

Wow...I used to love Game Maker.

Anyway, the game is functional, which more than most people can claim with their games. Look promising so far. What else do you have planned?

Also, just wondering, but is always going to throw the sword, or eventually swing it?

Yeah, despite it's reputation on the internet it really is an excellent 2d game engine. Luckily for me that reputation has started to improve in recent years.

Let's see, shops, character generation options, more artifacts, more decorative objects complete with pointless interaction. (I wonder if any of you noticed you could mess with the lights?)

Now I'm considering ditching the summon system in place of generic spells and special moves, I'd reuse the summon code to create a constant companion that would accompany you through the dungeon... unless something kills them of course.

The sword throwing is from the early days when this was a more Gauntlet inspired game, I could change it if you'd prefer.

I didn't notice that you could mess with the lights, actually.

One of the reasons I asked what you were implementing was because of this. I think it'd probably be better to have dedicated ranged weapons, and have the sword as a pure melee (or maybe be able to throw it, but just once).

You could also just go your own route, which is an interesting one.

Figured I should do a quick update about what I'm doing, the answer is balancing, lot's and lot's of balancing.

Oh and I screwed around with the high quality lighting.

I seem to recall mentioning a really long ass time ago that the gui was a temporary place holder I quickly threw together and that I intended to eventually replace it.

Well finally got around to doing just that.

Still tinkering with it but it's still way better than the old one.
