Important:
OSX 10.7+ is the minimum recommended to play the game.
To use this pack on 10.6 you need to delete Dwarf Fortress/hack/libstdc++.6.dylib.
The libstdc++ included in DFHack r3 might work on 10.6. Anyone able to check this?

Players on OSX 10.8+ may need to update XQuartz to launch the game.
Try replacing SDL_ttf.framework with the one from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_ttf/release/SDL_ttf-2.0.11.dmg (I don't know if I've actually tested Truetype with this, but it contains a working Freetype library).

Testing on 10.6 would be good indeed.

Notice the may.  :) Freetype.dylib is included in the pack to fix xquartz dependency, and I'm wary of replacing another SDL library in case it introduces new bugs.

Service announcement: Due to being in the middle of a project update is postponed for about two weeks. That is unless I die of caffeine abuse.  ;D

Quote from: DFhack
[DFHack]# /Applications/Macnewbie/Dwarf Fortress/dfhack: line 15:   181 Bus error               DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=./hack/libdfhack.dylib ./dwarfort.exe "$@"

logout

[Process completed]

This keeps on happening. Not only does it happen when I exit the game (a known error according to mifki), but also just randomly sometimes when I unpause. I'm running 10.6.8. It's really not fun to spend a half hour on designations then have the game quit unexpectedly without saving.

EDIT: changing my search params got me some results showing other people with this issue. Downloading the latest XQuartz version to see if that fixes it.

EDIT2: nope. Downloaded latest XQuartz, logged out, logged in, restarted for good measure, ran dwarf fortress, experienced the exact same issue. It gave a different value for the bus error though: 558 rather than 181

EDIT3: Disabled TWBT. This seems to have fixed it. I'll update this when the game has run for a year or two without crashing or it crashes.

EDIT4: Ok it was definitely TWBT causing the crashes. Could you please put a little sentence somewhere in the OP saying that 10.6.8 may experience crashes as a result of TWBT? Because that would have saved me hours of searching through the thread and playtesting.

Always a safe default assumption in this game

They experience crashes only because none of them sent me a crash log. When it crashes, OS X should show a window with an option to view crash log (don't remember exact button titles on 10.6). Please copy and post that report, and I will fix the issue.

Post it on a pastebin-type site (http://pastebin.com/, http://hastebin.com/, http://fpaste.org/, etc.)

Oh, I thought you meant that was a TwbT-related crash. Have you looked at common crashes on the bug tracker (in particular, building constructions in trees)?

Edit: fricy - the version of DFHack in this pack is rather outdated. Are there plans to update it?

Just because nobody's replied doesn't mean it isn't fixable. Have you tried disabling TwbT or starting DF without DFHack? If those don't work, you could open a report on the bug tracker and link to your save.
