Remembering first times through new players
« on: August 08, 2013, 04:00:45 am »

It appears that Notch mentioning DF indeed brought an influx of new players to the forums. Welcome!

While I am quite familiar with DF through years of playing, it's always heartwarming to read about someones first time experiences. When I hear someone excitedly telling about the first time they saw a combat log or an artifact, dug through adamantine or experienced a tantrum spiral, it brings back memories of when I was in their shoes and awestruck by what the game threw at me. I'll try not to spoil anything through reminiscing here, but I'm looking forward to hearing more rejoicing of the things we now take for granted.

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

I still consider what happened to SpiralDementia as the best.

Probably one of the best first times in the history of first times. It'll be remembered alongside such greats as boatmurdered and mermaid farming.

EDIT: For any newcomers, that thread is one massive spoilerfest. It's famous because SpiralDementia avoided the spoiler that forms the subject of the thread.

Then it happened. Then I cringed. Then I picked it up and beat him to death with it, and then his buddies, too.
You beat a man to death with his dick?
