Osman - The Human God

The start of Oildawn was interesting, with a terrifying werecreature turning up. before scurrying away: http://i.imgur.com/aA3A8qj.png

But when checking out the law maker on the human civilization "The Matched Nation", I noticed something peculiar. http://i.imgur.com/totdB9U.png

Blind Devil Drunk? Ok, so I'm guessing Osman is a blind devil, somehow working his way up The Matched Nation's nobility ladder. But where does the drunk come from? Just who exactly is Osman? So I checked out legends.

Turns out Osman is a human God: http://i.imgur.com/63Zveie Surely not.. When checking The Matched Nation's history, I noticed the name Geb come up a lot, making himself a lord. This is where we find the reference to Osman, that sly devil: http://i.imgur.com/SsxvHVX.png "In the late winter of 9 Geb fooled The Matched Nation into believing he was Osman.

Anyone have any ideas why it says Drunk?

"Drunk" is an NPC profession randomly assigned to historical NPCs. Same thing as fish cleaners, threshers, etc. I've had a dwarven queen be listed as a drunk before, which frankly shouldn't need to be explicitly stated, she is a dwarf after all.

The trolls that goblins bring often have professions too. Troll Drunks have invaded me before, as have Troll Cooks. Its just a random profession title.

Really, makes sense, you'd have to be drunk to want to trick humans into thinking you're a god. And they'd have to be drunk to believe you, actually.

PS: Seriously, you must have, like, super-getting-lost skills. You could go missing in a straight corridor and impale yourself on flat ground if I don't tell you where to go.

Ah right, that explains a lot.

How much alcohol does it take to get a great eyeless gecko twisted into humanoid form wasted?
Typical human civilisation, a drunken lawmaker pretending to be a god, making all the important decisions.

I suppose the copious drinking of enough alcohol to kill a city was what convinced them Geb was a god.

Maybe he gets to be less "driven to evil" when drunk? You never know, he could well be a radical party animal, and make a good candidate for being a god of debauchery!

I mean, look at bacchus. If you think a combination of "pan and bacchus", even the twisted animalness of his form wouldn't be out of place.

Just searched through the raws, it isn't listed as a profession at all from what I can tell.

EDIT: Oh wait, [PROFESSION_NAME:::] doesn't say they can do the profession, it says what it is called for them

So Geb the Blind Devil,*cough* sorry, "Osman" turned up for a discussion. I've got human merchants turned on through dfhacks command 'fixmerchants' btw.. Except Osman, isn't the merchants representative. He's just.. turned up. Check the unit lists, two diplomats. I must be ignorant of something here. http://i.imgur.com/zla3hjb.png

From experience, it means the first one still hasn't talked to discuss anything since arriving last year so he can't leave yet. the next one will inherit the title once he does so and finally leaves the map. Unless you mean they both arrived at the same time?

Osman arrived first, and then the human diplomat arrived with the trade caravans.
The pictures I posted above was the entire discussion from Osman.
The human diplomat then went through the import / export agreement after Osman left.

Oh, and the strange thing, Osman was the Law Giver at the time.

Firstly: I'm surprised. Never seen the law giver arrive but humans either seem to be wiped out in EVERY world I play in, or they're so far away I literally take 15-20 years for the first caravan to arrive so Idk.

Secondly: That dust might be fun.

Alright, so DF crashed after he arrived when i tried to launch stonesense. So i'm going to capture osman in a glass room, glass tables, chairs, a bed, some food lots of booze, and throw all my tame rats in the pit, then I'll go visit him in adventure mode.

Well, Geb must be a disciple or previous follower of Osman, because if he can trick and lie his way into becoming a lie giver, then he's damn good at trickery, which Osman is the god of.

Yeah, it doesn't seem that the humans were entirely misguided into believing that he was Osman.
