Wait, are katana's thrusting weapons? I don't think you'd be able to unsheathe and thrust in one motion if it is, the movements seem to odd in my head.
Katana (Japanese plurals are weird but simple!) can (probably) be used as either, if you know what you're doing. If not, you'll break it no matter what.

That's right, I can find Youtube videos of stuff too. Fear me, piecewise!
They're really never supposed to be used as anything but cutting weapons, thats true. But they have a point so I'll let it go. Not like I'm gonna force them to adhere to the strict tenets of Kendo any more then I'm gonna force Derm to use real medieval martial art styles or a guy with a rapier to have proper footing and stance for fencing.

Or point out that katanas were never main weapons, they were the samurai side arm, and that they'd fair very poorly against metal armor, being fairly brittle.

Speaking of which, anyone ever see that movie "Sword of the stranger"? Great fucking fight scene in that.

Seen that scene and it truly is great. So is the music.

You want to use 3 dice...to try and roll higher then 9 successes?

At best, you roll 6 successes, and thats with 3 6's. And thats still a pretty damn bad cut he's gonna inflict on you.

Wanna try that again?

Remember, the +x speed or whatever is just more dice, it's not a static bonus to successes.

Right now you have 9 dex dice and 13 speed dice to use. And everything resets after this reaction.

He used nine strength and got 9 successes because he's a lucky bastard who rolled several 6's which are worth 2 successes.

[10!] Oh boy, you got 4 6's! hell of a thing.

Execute ducks and brings his sword up in an arc, forcing Derm's enormous blade to cleave through air rather then his ribcage. Derm's sword swings to an awkward stop as he struggles to regain control.

Alright, all the pools reset now and it's Execute's time to act. This time, you get +2 successes for this attack, because your counter was effective. Gonna need it too, that armor of his is pretty good. Then again, that right lower arm section is damaged...

Don't worry, I'm gonna have to run several tests to get everything working and expose the oddities in the system, so you'll have plenty of chances to try again with different characters or whatever. Not like you're dead yet or anything, you can still get up and pwn him.

Yes I will reference that video every second of the day. That or the "Don't stop the Rock" with havel one.

resheath blade.
"Come at me, demon-San."

You Sheathe your blade and grip the handle, ready and waiting.

Derm, since he didn't attack you don't react, it goes straight into your action.

I'm not entirely certain how slashing your blade at me is gonna stop a straight up 'charge you down' motion logically but OKAY.

Also is this maneuver even allowed after a sheath? At a quick glance, it seems a little broken.

so thats 11-5= 6-3 from the armor=4

Execute waits till the last possible second and then steps just out of the way of Derm's charge and stashes straight at his head. The blade tears straight through Derm's Father mask  and horrible gash across derm's face, ruining one eye and leaving his jaw hanging partially limp. His already dim awareness is further weakened by the loss of his eye, but otherwise the wound and the loss of his head armor seems to just have pissed him off.

Pools reset.

Execute acts.

6-3 is 3.
Oops, I actually started with the wrong number and realized it only after starting the math. It should be
12-5=7-3=4.

This is what I get for trying to fix things quick.

Good thing Giant dad is all brawn and no subtlety. Blows to the head do surprisingly little to him.
