"T-They are my partners! They are f-fighting one of those things!""What? Well shit, tell them not to die, otherwise that damn thing will come after us next! Shoulda brought a fucking book or something..." He still seemed on edge, constantly moving and unable to stand still.
Randall turned his attention back to the comms, calling out and hoping for an update. From the sounds of it, Samuel isn't doing so hot, but the creature got smoked. Supposedly, making sure never hurts.
"Y-You d-did it! I'm at the shelter entrance with one survivor. W-We will wait for you, but make sure to not attract any of t-those things. Don't make more n-noise than it has been made, please. Y-You mauled it hard enough, r-right? Remember that s-shooting the head just doen't work."Randall turned to Wilmer, sharing the good news and pressing for more information.
"T-They killed one of t-those things. Any recommendation for them? They are heading here so that we can enter at the same t-time to the s-shelter.""They actually killed one of those fucking things?" The man seemed genuinely surprised.
"A recommendation? Keep hitting it and don't trust the damn thing. And to hurry it up, night's falling."Randall was pulled back in the conversation over the comms as Harvey spoke again.
"Trust me, it's got a hole where it's torso used to be. Unless it can regrow half it's body it ain't getting back up. But I don't think Samuel's gonna live long enough to get him back.""H-He is so b-bad? I-If he happens to die, he will turn into another of t-those things. And m-maybe you won't be so lucky this t-time.""Do people always turn if they die?"Thankfully, Marion cut in on the comms at this point.
"This is Dupont, do you copy? Just had a... strange encounter with a man that really should have been dead.""Y-You too? G-get away from t-those things. And mainly f-from the b-black gas t-they make. A-are you OK?""Yeah I'll be okay. I think. You don't think we should touch them? What's been happening with you guys? I'm still at the train station.""I-I have been extracting some information from a survivor. C-Currently I-I'm at the entrance to the shelter. I-I don't know if you can t-touch them or not, but I k-know that they spew a black thing that makes you b-become one of them.""Damn, guys, it sounds like this station's way more dangerous than you'd think. Shame it has to be monster-infested, though. I hate monsters.""I've been t-told that the m-monsters like dark places and that t-they come out at n-night.""They're tough but they're not invincible. Next time we'll be better prepared."Any further response was cut off as another shot rang out loudly from outside.
"Well, guess that's one way to make sure it's damn well dead. I woulda just bashed it with a club or something instead of waste a bullet."
Freddie regarded his creation with skepticism.
"Hm. Maybe I should try again."Removing the excess cloth wasn't too difficult, but half way through unraveling he had an interesting idea. Maybe...

Crack! Freddie was finding himself having a much easier time of removing the legs from the desks, suppose he just needed to get in the groove of it. A simple swing of the mace in this spot with this much force at this specific angle and... Clack! Another perfectly good leg to make a torch from.
The couch cutting was similarly easier. Freddie learned which was the best angle to go at it with the splintered leg, cutting along the designs in the fabric instead of against them. Soon a respectable pile of fabric and legs sat next to each other, with the oil canister within reach. Seems the only limit to torches will be actual oil. No use wasting that perfectly good already-soaked fabric from his first 'torch' either.
Freddie retrieved his spike, ready to try out his idea. First, the man took each leg and made four hole in all sides of the torch, at both ends. Next, he threaded the couch fabric through each hole to make a series of loops, which itself held a wad of oiled cloth and was tied off again on the outside. With a bit of testing by swinging it around, the cloth didn't see loose and didn't fall out either when held upside down.
He repeated this process six more times, reaching the end of the oil canister, and like any good creator regarded his work. There are finely made dual-torches, all craftsmanship is of the highest quality. The object's ends are encircled in oiled cloth and pierced with loops of oiled cloth. These objects menace with spikes of oiled cloth.
Freddie was drawn from his inspection of the dual-torches by the chatter on the comms. A brief review of the log shows that they managed to kill the thing and Marion finished her encounter with whatever it was she was fighting.

Harvey watched the creature for a moment. It looked pretty dead, but you never really know. Best point-blank it just to be sure. Might be best to report in first however. Before Harvey could radio in, the comms crackled and Randall's voice came in over the frequency.
"A-Are you still ok?"Well, that's convenient.
"Hey, uhm anyone know anything about medicine? I'm pretty sure that thing smashed half the bones in the Samuel's body."As an after thought, he tacked on another statement.
"Oh and Randall, they ain't so tough after all I blew a twelve inch hole in it's chest and it stopped moving."Randall replied, advising their groups to meet up at the bunker door. He also asked if Harvey mauled it enough. The man looked at the creature again. Black ooze slowly leaked from its chest, its eyes glazed over and distant.

Seems she has been having troubles with these things too in the Outskirts. Harvey glanced at Samuel one last time before focusing on the creature. Better safe than sorry.
Samuel thought similarly, summoning up what strength he could and flinging him away. Not even a second later, a spiked, whip-like arm smashed into the wall where the conductor was only moments prior. Samuel didn't stop there and moved yet again, tumbling forward and away from the creature, avoiding another crushing boom from the second arm flung his way.
His body coursed with adrenaline and the haze that was threatening to consume was slowly lifting itself. Sadly, that also means that the pain was coming back as his body was leaving shock. OHGODWHYTHEPAIN--The conductor's entire body screamed with pain, but a burning pain in his right arm continued to grow and grow. Taking a look at it, he can see why, he doubts his arm is suppose to naturally twist that way. His thumb was pointing behind him, his wrist and arm twisted and the joints swollen, and his shoulder seems to have been dislocated. Even just trying to move the arm sang a chorus of pain into his mind that instantly caused him to discontinue.
While Samuel saw the attack coming, Harvey wasn't expecting the two arms coming his way. The first went low and the second high, each trying to attack him from opposite angles. But the first attack, the low one, was slow and lazy, not nearly fast enough to catch the man. Moving with a swiftness that surprised even Harvey, he brought up a foot and stomped on a joint of the striking arm, bringing the rifle to bear. He aimed directly at the creature's face.
There was a sharp staccato that bellowed throughout the store, the creature not even having a chance to dodge as the bullet smashed into its head. Its entire body jerked, the other arm still flying towards Harvey being directed off course and smashing into the ground as the creature continued to jerk and writhe violently, half of its head missing entirely. Its movements slowed and then stopped, its tensed body relaxing as it embraced death.
Well, seems it wasn't quite dead prior.

[Considering this turn of events, I figured you might of wanted to reorder/say/do something differently than what you had planned Patrick. Although the idea of someone going 'ho-hum, guess I'll go loot now' after having been attacked by something you thought dead is quite hilarious.]
