Freddie and
Frogdo continue on to the engineering outpost, the two groups going their separate ways.
It doesn't take much longer to get to the outpost, thankfully with no other distractions of any kind. The city is quiet actually, no sounds, no people, nothing. The only thing to keep the two company are each other, their soft treading footsteps on the composite-stone ground, and the goal of theirs in sight.
The street ended directly at the building, a large, one-story, brick and steel cube of cracked windows, a sturdy door, and a second building connected to it, a garage. The road ends, leading into the garage, its steel shutters closed albeit it seems to have taken a beating. Unlike the buildings around it, it seems the building has weathered the event well, or at least well enough. The windows are cracked instead of shattered, with circular holes pocking the dusty surfaces here and there: bullet holes. The door is made of steel and appears to be intact, hanging on its hinges ajar.
The maintenance corridors lie ahead, although reaching hydroponics or Marion is still quite a ways away. Most likely too far to help in whatever scrap she's currently in, but at least your getting closer.
Randall cursed and got off the survivor.
"-D-Damn, there is something coming. Grab your things and run. I-I will tell you what I know when we are safe."Rage simply nodded as he rubbed his neck faintly, turning his attention to the alleyway that Randall seems focused on. He doesn't exactly have any supplies beyond his knife, which he makes a half-hearted search for. He snatches the first thing off the ground that sort of looks like it and flees with Randall.
The both of them dash down the road, dodging cars and anything that might trip them up, Randall taking the lead and Rage trying to keep up. Shortly after they duck into a ruined building to break line of sight, the building little more than walls and a floor than a building.
Randall catches his breath before speaking over the comm while Rage leans against a wall, looking at what he has in his hand with both confusion and pleasant surprise. Seems he picked up a crowbar that had been discarded in the street instead of his knife, something he just now learned.
"Reading you clear C.U. Four, this is Bunker. Update?"The feminine voice answers the call again, in its usual detached tone.
"-The survivor says t-that there is, I-I don't know, a kind of p-plague, something that makes you want to kill other people. And those who are caught by those things b-become more of them. T-The information was not really clear, but we should find a shelter for the n-night, that is when these things become active.""Not very clear, a plague? We don't have any air analysis equipment down here, no backup from our front in discovering anymore. Some laboratories might have some however if you manage to cross one. Do you know the means of infection, symptoms, if its airborne or not? The Sergeant only appreciates clear, precise information, so get that information however you can from the survivor, methods are to you."Search (Rage): [6]
Samuel crept forward as
Harvey stayed back, keeping an eye on both the outside and the man with the gun as he resided inside the shadows of the interior.
Safari nodded as he saw Samuel come forward, although he stayed behind the counter. When Samuel was close enough, the man whispered lightly, barely containing a smile. From here, Samuel can see several augmentations on the man, mainly those of his eyes and ears, both having a metallic sheen to them.
"Welcome, welcome friend and fellow hunter! I'm always pleased to have customers in my shop, but I'm afraid now isn't the best of times, good chap, there's been a bit of a, ah, shortage I'm afraid."The man glanced at the empty cases, racks, and display cases, before looking back at Samuel.
"That, and there seems to be a terrible infestation of a horrible beast above us, quite dreadful. For the common man I suppose, but that I am not, no, I relish the hunt! It does so save me the time from having to hunt it down myself, you see." Safari couldn't hide his grin any longer as he hefted his rifle for show, before looking at the two.
"Ah, but where are my manners, I'm Sir Claudius Servile The Fourteenth, at your service dearest customer. Proud owner, proprietor, and entrepreneur of all things hunting and guns, I assure you no better place to go if you want some foul beast dead! Don't mind my competitors, they don't truly understand the purpose of such beautifully crafted weapons such as mine." The man snorted with disdain at the word 'competitor.'
He was silent for a moment, looking upwards before smiling again to himself.
"I do suggest you and your friend prepare yourself, the beast may think its being quiet but I assure you, no beast has yet to best my ears. It shall be upon us shortly." With that, the man crouched behind the counter and leveled his rifle towards the door, looking through the sights.
