I think Splint built towers in because:

A) They look nice.
B) We may train some archers someday and we are defensive fighters rather than offensive ones.
C) What kind of fortress town doesn't have watchtowers?

Yeah, I want to build some more for roleplayish and esthetic purposes but they don't actually help for defenses.

They can be, but going on the walls may be better

Melting them would be a bit of a waste at this point. You probably already melted them down (If you made them from iron I will have your head on a stick if we don't find more) but otherwise just store them  somewhere for now.

13th Granite: The buzzards are back for another beating. Nine of them fly over the walls to try to steal items and attack civilians. The military and some dogs, that happened to be in the tavern, intervened and we were victorious. We literally came out unscratched.
After this puny attack I've decided to let two bows get forged, so we can defend ourselves even easier.

23rd Granite:
The harvest season has begun. The farmers are busy harvesting all the crops.

8th Slate:
Because we really lack good clothes I've ordered leather clothing to be made, I have also requeated a seventh armorset to be forged.

19th Slate: The armory is finally done, as are two new housing units. Now we only need to build 3
more to cover the entire population.

28th Slate:
Appearantly we had loads of rope read... Orders for 19 full sets of cloth clothing have been qued and about 8 tunics have been made as I write this.

How do you post images BTW?

I made them of copper. I wanted to equip Emergency Response (they respond a bit slow...) with them. Appearantly we have a marksman with quite high skill. If I remember correctly it was the chief physician

The your head shall remain unspiked. Copper we have in abundance (Hell we have some ore of it down in the mines.) Emergency Response was created so that anyone who happened to be closest to something like a snatcher or thief could be thrown in and ordered to attack it.

Once we have enough breeding couples we could draft all our civilians into the military to serve as part time draftees. Except our miners, woodcutters and hunters (the latter of which we have none of I think.)

DO THE BOWS IDEA! It works really effective against the furies when they show up!

Think about it; flying angry harpies? Shoot em down!

And then watch as people accidentally themselves because they thought retreating and then reloading was a dumb idea.
