Climb down, search for a strong stick, and a sharp rock. Walk in direction of the barn while cutting the stick into a spear.

+1 to this, we already have a knife but if we meet anything dangerous on the way there i really prefer a weapon with more reach. Instead of a sharp rock why not just sharpen the stick with our knife?

Edit: Fridge logic here, how the hell do we know which way is south if we cant see the sun or stars?

Adventurers always know their directions, even when lost in a maze of twisty passages, all alike. Mainly it's so we don't have to be all "go barnways" and "go uphill".

You climb down, pick up a couple rocks and a long stick, and head south toward the barn.

Your knife is a good tool for sharpening the stick. If you cut a notch in the stick to insert a pointy thing, you'll need string to tie it securely. Also, the rocks you find are fairly smooth and aren't flinty and don't break into sharp pieces when you bang them together. In compromise you sharpen up the stick pretty well.

After a while you reach the barn. It's made of big planks, unpainted, covered in moss. It's dilapidated, sagging, its doors yawning open. Trees were cut all around it and brush and grass has grown into the space. Across the "clearing" opposite the barn is a house that looks one season away from collapse. You can see daylight through gaps in the walls and roof. The shutters hang open or have fallen off. A tree has taken root in the porch and entwines the fieldstone chimney.

You're at the edge of the brush-filled "clearing". Your feet are numb from walking on dewy earth.

Well crap, no happy little farming family here.

Look inside the barn, then check inside the house, make lots of noise and shout just in case some people are in there.

Don't want to get killed for being an intruder after-all. Though i do suspect it's abandoned.

Navigating across the "clearing" is difficult because of all the brush. Your legs get pretty scraped up.

A peek inside the barn reveals scattered remnants of hay, debris from the ceiling, drifts of leaves that have blown in, assorted tiny bones, and dirt. All of this is drifted up against the walls and packed down, in places over a foot deep. Some rusted-out implements hang on the walls. There are stalls with open doors, and stairs going up to a loft that leaves the center of the room open from floor to ceiling. A square window at loft level lets in light and you see gaps in the ceiling too. The barn has another set of doors on the other side but the opening is completely choked with brush.

The porch of the house crumbles under your weight. Looking in you see some weathered furniture, some fixtures on the walls in places that look like candle-holders, and a couple paintings. When you circle the house you find it has windows all around, but they're too high to reach from outside, and there's a (closed) cellar door built at an angle against the back of the house. From the height and the windows it looks like the house is two stories plus an attic.

(If you want to enter and explore the barn or house you'll need to specify that)

You call out to get some attention. The shouts startle some birds into flight and there is some rustling in the undergrowth of the "clearing". But no voices answer.

You're very cold.

Grab a sharp or heavy tool from the barn to replace your sharp stick. Search the house for something to use as warm bedding. Search outside for a well or other water source that could have supported the house back when it was occupied.

+1, also,

look for some clothes, and keep an eye out for valuable stuff
(i figure we could do with some trading materials, in case we ever run into traders and the like.)
... and maybe we could offer them to our lover as reconciliation gift later on. Moving on with our life? F that! +1 for desperately clinging to a failed relationship like the hormonal 17 year old our character is!  :P

The Dryad will come around eventually. After all, you both said you would love each other forever! And people who are in love don't lie to each other. You are certain of this.

You enter the barn and poke around the ground floor. The metal implements are rusted so badly they're nowhere near as useful as your dagger. Probably less weapon potential than one of the rocks you picked up. You find the dry light-brown skeleton of a horse in one of the open stalls. You haven't searched the loft.

Outside you search the "clearing" for a well and discover a ramshackle low-roofed building among the brush that you missed when you walked through before. To reach it you need to crawl on bare ground under a low tunnel of brush. The door is missing, and inside there is a square wooden hatch.

The house is all creaks and groans once you get inside. Sometimes a board is simply too weak to support your weight. It takes some time to get around carefully and even that is no guarantee. Or you can search faster, but more likely to step wrong.

You're in the front room of the house. There's a fieldstone fireplace, a moldy rotted carpet, a flimsy-looking long table with a few chairs, and a shelf with some knickknacks. The walls are wooden boards with faded white paint.

Exits are N (outside), E (kitchen), S (back room), stairs Up, and stairs Down.
