+1 for searching the knickknacks. then we should leave the building as it is obviously way too decrepit to stay in for any extended period of time. It is highly obvious that going either up or down the stairs could leave us with serious injuries that would prematurely end this game.

We need to rest eventually, we could at least rest a bit on our current floor if the stairs are your main concern, even if that seems a tad wasteful.

Well you have a fair point, when we lie down/go up/downstairs or whatever the floorboards/supports could give way and break our legs.

The shelf contains some things with no value other than sentimental, but it also has some nice things too:

a Painted Pebble

Exits are N (outside), E (kitchen), S (back room), stairs Up, and stairs Down.

You peek into the kitchen. There is a wooden counter surface built into the wall with drawers attached to the underside. Above that are some ruined cabinets also built into the wall. Atop the cabinets are some rotted baskets and debris. There's a stone sink in a gap between two counters along the wall. Like this:

On the opposite wall is a set of built-in shelves flush with the wall. There are some jars and bags on the shelves, and also some smashed on the floor beneath.

In the middle of the kitchen are the ruins of a table and some stools, and other scraps. Amid the debris there's a human skeleton in silent repose. Its skull is nodded forward so the chin rests on the breastbone and the jaw is closed. Hanging above is a chandelier made from deer antlers.

You are in the kitchen. Exits are W (front room).

You're very cold.

Alright, jars and bags, potentially some goodies. First we should try to get a fire lit. it's the middle of winter after-all.

Take the compass, the pocketknife, the lighter, and the playing cards (to play solitaire of course). Check and see if the lighter works, if so start looking around for a furnace or fireplace to light a fire in.

take the ocarina too, Examine lighters engraving. (no reason, just figured an instrument could come in handy, if we run out of inventory space we could always just throw it away.)

I see no reason not to, as a lone traveler we need our poorly played ocarina music and solitaire.

+1, was a fire place in the room with knickknacks and a moldy carpet we could burn if needed. (should be easy enough to tear up if its nailed to the floor)

Before we light the fire i suggest we bury the corpse of the former inhabitant of this house. If we are to use this house at all, it would be the least we could do
