Right then. Keep quiet, look around for any way they could possibly get in, and keep quiet. Also, keep quiet.

The night is very cold, very tense, as your little group huddles in the dark afraid to move and even breathe. Gremlins scrape at the window-slits from the outside, and gremlins halfheartedly gnaw at the barrier in the doorway leading to the shop. But none of them notice your party hiding in the barracks despite the very good chance that they would.

As the sky begins to lighten the gremlins melt into the shadows and their numbers thin. Claire points out the window-slit to the bridge and you see what she spotted: gremlins seem to be massing in that area and climbing down over the edge of the cliff. Long before dawn they are all hidden away again.

Aha! Thar be the lair! Or at least the best direction to it.

Hmm, we're going to be tired after a night like that. Perhaps not in the best condition to fight. Are we still sure they won't wake up if we enter their lair by day?

We better check the well before we even think about heading toward the cliff. we still haven't seen if the lindwurm had any loot hidden.

Indecision wracks your body - hopefully you will get better and post an action. Charlotte certainly feels better as soon as breakfast is brought out. She still winces at her bruised ribs but she's back in fighting shape. Your party shares some bites of hardtack, dried meat and fruit, and half of one of your sausages. The women drink water from their bota bags and you polish off your cider. Your group should be fine for another couple days before running out of water, and a little while longer before running out of food.

After eating your skimpy breakfast you notice that the DM forgot to deduct weight for the ever-emptying bota bags. You feel an extra spring in your step! You could carry quite a bit more treasure now ... if you found any.

The sky is lightening but the sun is still well below the eastern mountains. You can see well enough to travel but it'll be dark in the well until noon. During breakfast Charlotte silently describes (with Pearl translating, which means it takes longer) the opening she found in the well. She noticed a strangely carved stone and pushed it, which released a square secret door. But when the door opened it weakened the ice and she fell through. The worm must have come out of it and then up the well.

Well, sounds promising. I'm believing more and more it may have been guarding something.

Quite so, onward into the well, perhaps leave our less necessary stuff behind?

Edit:Then again we don't know where this may lead us so maybe we shouldn't leave anything behind.

Definitely a good idea. anytime you find a secret passage you are almost certainly obligated to explore it.

You pack up your gear and head outside. The snow is packed down everywhere, evenly, as if the gremlins walked and climbed over every single spot over and over. Claire points out a couple handprints though.

The black slick from the remains of the white worm shows through the new snow. The well yawns open as it did before. Peering down, the well is dark past the first few feet. The rope still hangs down, secured at the lip of the well.

Will you strike a torch? What's your marching order in the descent?

Sure strike a torch, being able to see would be of value.

Order: Charlotte, Jeff, Pearl, Claire.

Charlotte once again climbs over the edge of the well. You light your torch and hand it to her, and she slowly climbs down the rope, inching along with one hand and both legs gripping the rope tightly. You start down after her, then Pearl who clenches a knife in her teeth, and then Claire with her bow slung around her shoulder.

You hold up on the rope above Charlotte as she finds a foothold in each wall. The secret door is still popped open. She pulls the door and it slides to the left and fits against the curved wall of the well. She holds the torch behind her head so she doesn't ruin her vision, peering into the opening, and creeps in to make room for you.

You climb down to the bottom of the well. It's a little wider down here. The frozen surface has leaves and twigs embedded in it and the whole thing is cracked and floating freely. The secret door has a pair of strange armature hinges attached to the right side, so when the door slides to the left the armature fits up against the left wall of the corridor ahead. The operation of the door is slow but quiet.

Charlotte has drawn her short sword and holds the torch high in her left hand. The smoky flame illuminates a perfectly squared-off, smooth-walled hallway stretching forward into the darkness. The floor is littered with translucent white scales and there's a film of slick black fluid on the walls, floor, and ceiling.

Charlotte is in the secret hallway. You're in the bottom of the well next to the secret door. Pearl and then Claire are above you clinging to the rope.

Continue, naturally. Since this is narrow, get something stabby out.
