Well, journal, there are some news.

First, agents have found something somewhere at the caverns. As usual they rectricted any access there so no one actually knows what exactly they found. Even me.

Second, we had a siege here and the gates were open again. Luckily they finally pulled the lever to cut off before the most of enemied get into, so we had to deal just with some of them. I said we, but I didn't get there in time. That's all because of idiotic system of stairs here - it turns here and there and you have to run forth and back again on next floor to get where you want. By the time I go there it was over. Flame was wounded because of his usual bling rage attack and Khahm took his duty while Flame is in hospital.

Third, KB called me for meeting after the fight. He finally revealed what the thing they found is, and it is suddenly the way to eternal might and prosperity. It will destroy all our enemies and make our civilization rule the world. Bullshit, I say. I do not believe that kind of fairy tales! I wiil never believe it untill I see it by my own eyes and hold in my own hands!

But I shall obey king's orders that unfortunately are brought to us by RIN. And king says we must claim the thing and suppress any hostility we meet there.

And fourth, journal. Sometimes I see myself ruling this place like a puppet master. I give order and other dwarves do the job, but I don't need to say anything. I just do something and they go ahead. For example, I set up clay brick fortifications in the caverns, or build a few stair shortcuts between floors. Or send a squad against the forgotten beast that sprung from cave lake.
What's wrong with this place? Or with me?

Khahm twitched his pinky finger slightly, a nervous habit. He had rather slender fingers for the likes of a dwarf.

"Listen, its not that i'm complaining... Hell, Yes! yes it is that i'm complaining! I don't want to go down there. Maybe he will change his mind. I want to be back out at sea, where listening to the waves slap against the ships hull against my drunken stupor is the beginning and end of each day!"


"Yeah."
The cook who was preparing lavish meals just suffered through Khahms rantings, he knew it would only make things worse to say much at all.


"Wait.. This artifact that we are suppose to retrieve, do you know anything about it?"
Khahm's eyes widened slightly and he gave way to an expression of interest.

"Item? What do you mean?"
The cook was now paying more attention

"Yes you fool! Have you not been listening! We are suppose to get something that will save all dwarves, it shall bring prosper and glory to all those who see and hear of its power!"
Khahm had a bad habit of spilling privy information while enjoying a good mug of rum, he straightened up his back fast and propped his head at a cocked angle.

"Oh? And do you suppose this will be dangerous for the fortress as well?"
The cook knew that Dworthfingers had been promoted to a higher rank and was fishing for information.

"Dangerous!!! DANGEROUS! Hah! Did you not see me slay those trolls? Did you not see me lay waste to those fool goblins who stumbled into my path? What would you know about danger cook!"
He was flushing red now and the veins in his forehead seemed to strain under high blood pressure.

"Alright, Khahm down. Don't think just because you are lending a hand in the royal guard it gives you the right to have a big head."
The chef seemed to regain control of the situation.

"Yes, well, give me one of those beast roasts, my stomach is roaring!"
As the dwarf sat eating his meal the cook patiently waited for the right time to ask his next question.

"Khahm, do you think KB is doing a good job? I mean he is the one who gave this order right?"
The cook poured another splashing of rum into Dworthfingers mug as he asked the question.

"Yeah! Well, he is alright, it's that blasted flame who will feel my wrath!"
He twitched his pinky finger again as he brought the mug of rum to his lips.

"Right yes, Flame got injured pretty bad, but KB is he planning this operation soon?"
The cook was leaning towards Khahm as he asked.

"Yes KB said it will be soon, Hey! What do you ask this for? You should be preparing those roasts! Not meddling with such questions!"
Khahm stood up sloshing some rum onto the floor as he headed off for a sparring session.

I've been wounded in battle, unfortunately. I fear for my chance of survival, and I think I heard a doctor mention infection. If I am not long for this world, then may it be known that I defended the fortress to my last breath. KB has claimed to have found something or other, which is supposed to bring end of our enemies. If this is true, then the fortress is as at last, and I'll be able to rest peacefully on the battleground of Ilid. But somehow, I know it's too good to be true. I wouldn't be so concerned if it wasn't for my replacements headstrong nature. He means well, and he can swing a hammer almost as well as me, but for him to be entrusted to the fortress's defense scares me.
Soon I might be able to see my wife again. If this is my last journal entry, then let it be known that I did not die a coward's death.
