Oh, yes, and I'll publicly Express Interest In Pythium so as to forestall as much waffling on my part as possible (and to try to preclude me from taking a water nation or Argatha in a moment of weakness).

Agartha and caves in general had a huge overhaul for them recently.

Yes, Argatha (and caves) getting a serious looking-at was a major reason I suggested Valanis as the map. I'm actually sore-tempted to give into temptation and take them. The main thing stopping me is that EA and MA Argatha are buggy under 4.03; currently, they give the first opponent whose capital they besiege working copies of some of the Argathan capital sites.

I think I'll pick Vanarus. I always prefer eastern factions when it comes to these games.

After some deliberation, I think I'll take Sceleria. They don't seem to have changed much in the transition from 3 to 4, so I can start learning the ins and outs of the new stuff, though it does look like there have been a couple minor changes.

Re: throne amount
I think less is more here, a throne per ten provinces sounds a bit much. So I would vote 9 thrones instead of 16.

All right, we've got 10 players, plus one standby. I'm not closing recruitment yet, but we have enough to go forward. DFNewb, if you get up and running before we've fixed options or before we get two more players, you're in. For everyone else, if you're indecisive (and I'm certainly not looking in the mirror as I say this), nations are not fixed until we submit pretenders or someone else calls them.

I'm posting a poll on how many thrones we want and how many points they should be worth. If there's an option that's truly repugnant, or definitely lacking, lemme know. One thing to consider when limiting the number of thrones is that the fewer there are, the more each is worth... and the more momentum the winning player gets as they move forward. Also, the more vulnerable the map becomes to blitzing.

For other options, I'm looking at 48h turns (with liberal extensions), 50% magic sites, no mods (YAY!), renaming, 15 HOF, limited artifact forging...

Common events, or rare?

And score graphs... old style? New style?

Oh, yes, and the 64000g question: Disciples, or free-for-all? One thing to consider is that if it's to be Disciples, we need two more players for even teams.

Common.  I'm cool with disciples or FFA, though if we do disciples I'm going to play as not asphodel, as they're a bit dependent on their dominion effect.

I suggest 16 thrones. 1 throne per 10 provinces sounds intuitively reasonable.

New-style score graphs, common events, and definitely free-for-all. For the record, I'm not sure that starting with 48h turns is a good idea; in my experience, slowing the game down will tend to weaken interest in it, and even if the turns fly by in the first few turns it only takes one slacker to draw out the full 48 hours.

I'll start it at 24h, with the implicit notion it'll ramp up to 48h after a year or so.
