Hello and welcome to a Pokemon RP-Tournament-Hybrid of grand proportions, large enough to deserve it's own seperate thread from the main one, as the world (or at least bay12) has never seen before.
In this thread, you will journey through the lands of Baitwey, face various Gym-Battles and of course your Rivals, grow in skill alongside them, and maybe one of you will surely become Pokemon-Master at the end of the journey.
In each town, all rivals will do battle against eachother. Each victory scores you a point. Between each town, you are given the choice between 3 possible routes to reach the next town, and may only catch pokemon that are logical to be found in such a region (example, sure you can find a Gyarados on open sea. However, finding a Sandshrew here is impossible). Starting with the first town, players will also take turns to run a gym, beating the gym has benefits (see below). At the end end of the victory road, the player with the highest score takes on the role of the challenger, the one with the second highest score will become the former champion, and the 4 players below that will be the elite 4. Only if the challenger can pass these 5, he can truely be called champion.
Battles will be held via
Showdown, a convenient online battle plattform. The sign up is free and doesn't even require an email adress, all you need to do is choose a name (for everyone's convenience, adding (bay12) to the end of the name for easy recognition is encouraged, but not mandatory), and protect it with a password. The options menu (the cog to the right of your name) allows for you to change your avatar. Our meeting place will be the chatroom "Arts and Crafts", that can be found in the list of rooms on the right. It's usualy empty and inactive, making it easy to spot eachother and challenge eachother to a battle. Unless otherwise specified, the format is Pokebank OU.
Much has changed since the first generation, so a short explanation on team creation.
Details: Here you can set the level of your pokemon, it's gender, wether it's shiny or not, or it's happiness. The only thing that really matters is the Level, as it gradualy increases over the course of the tournament - always double check if you have set the level correctly, it can be a great pain if battles need to be redone becaus eyou left a mon on lvl100, which is default. Gender and Shinyness are irrelevant, so is happiness as long as you don't change it.
Items: They do exactly as the description sais. Just browse the list, and surely you will find something that your pokemon can benefit from. When in doubt, defensive pokemons usualy benefit from "leftovers", which adds a small regeneration effect, while offensive pokemons can usualy benefit from "life orb", an item that greatly increases the damage they do, but slowly draisn their health when they use a damaging move. Know that there are item restrictions, see more below.
Abilities: As items, they do as they say. Usualy there should be a good choice among them. Know that if your pokemon evolves and the ability changes, hidden-abilities always lead to hidden abilities, and normal abilities always lead to normal abilities.
Stats: Beware the difference between physical and special. A pokemon with phenomenal Attack may still do pitiful damage when using a special move (distinguishable by the symbol next to the move), while a pokemon with amazing Special Defence can still crumble after taking a physical hit. Keep that in mind during battling and team building.
EVs: The sliders make it obvious what they do - they increase your pokemons stats, allowing for personalisation that may easily suprise your opponent, or simply make your pokemon even better at what it is already good at.
Natures: Raise one stat by 10%, lower another by 10%. If you are unsure what nature to take, there are neutral natures as well.
Tiers: Pokemon were categorized in various Tiers, so that people who prefer to use weaker pokemon don't have to compete with pokemon who prefer to have their team full of Mewtwo and Arceus. It's an issue of diversity, because with Ubers being an option, weaker pokemon would mean you stand no chance. Unless for one exception towards the very end of the tournament, Ubers are banned, all other tiers may be explored freely. Players are encouraged to pick what they like the most, not just the strongest pokemons.

Bellona Island: A small island off the western coast, boasting a lighthouse as well as a memorial to an ancient war.
Sankt Forest: A vast and mysterious forest, home to many bugs.
Claret Cape: A sandy headland reaching out over the sea, it is once said that a lone trainer and their companion once started their journey across the island from here, which has led to new trainers sometimes seeking it out in pursuit of luck. Rumours of a vast dragon here have resulted in a recent influx of veteran trainers as well, but no dragons have ever been found in the area.
Upland Ranch: A ranch where a wide range of roaming Pokemon are raised. Boasts a large flower meadow including rare species from Kanto, Sinnoh, and even Kalos.
Ruined Manor: Destroyed in a fire that killed the family that once lived here decades ago, the spirits of many Pokemon have since claimed this ruin as their own.
Daycare Facility: Helps raise trainer Pokemon. Also an adoption agency, dedicated to raising the many baby Pokemon left unwanted by their trainers and finding them new homes.
Team Mal. Labs: A mysterious facility run by an underground criminal gang.
Avesta Bridge: Local myths claim that this bridge still carries the hopes of those who once crossed it heading inland, tying two worlds together. Abandoned after an earthquake damaged the foundations, this bridge is no longer crossed by people, and wild flying and dark Pokemon have taken up residence around the spires of this ancient stone bridge.
Penumbral Marsh: Perpetually shrouded in shadows due to the heavy storms, even most Pokemon are wary of venturing this far into the mainland jungles. Trainers occasionally come here seeking rare or mysterious Pokemon, but most leave disappointed.
Mount Vernier: The tallest mountain of the region, this long-dead volcano continues to slumber.
Iselen Foundry: A massive ironworks and refining facility that utilizes geothermal energy as collected from a vast borehole originally created for scientific research.
Chiropt Tunnel: Known for its many, many bats, which caused mining in the area to be moved to more suitable shafts years ago after Repel expenses for the company rose too high. Also contains rare fossils from far-off antiquity that may be readily restored in the labs of the next city.
Desert Labyrinth: One of two great ruins, said to have once been the home to an order devoted to some long-lost ideal and protected by ancient and unfathomable Pokemon. A mysterious mental energy resides here, empowered by the mysterious glyphs that line the walls.
Safari Zone: A place where a wide range of rare and otherwise-unknown Pokemon may be caught. An expert in the use of legendary Pokemon is said to reside here.
Tower of the Sky: The tallest structure of the land, reaching up to the heavens. Many bird trainers make pilgrimage here to seek training from the finest flying leaders in the world.
Scholar's Retreat: Home to Professor Wattieza, the foremost expert on legendary Pokemon in the region. Through his own peculiar, but assuredly highly scientific and technical methods, he can unlock the power of certain orbs to release a legendary Pokemon. Freely accessible once Cinq City is reached, akin to gyms.
Frozen Cavern: A cave permanently steeped in ice, believed to be due to the Frozen Rock at its heart. Like Chiropt Tunnel, many fossils can be found here, though the cold dissuades all but the hardiest.
Lake Theoria: A mist-shrouded lake. An ancient mystical power is said to slumber here, one that draws many psychics and Psychic Pokemon.
Eulerre Village: A large town in the far north, though one that hosts a wide range of Pokemon. It is said that here, time itself slumbers.
Team Mal. HQ: The headquarters of an evil organization devoted to the acquisition of power and wealth. Freely accessible once Sei City is reached, akin to gyms.
Marine Shrine: A small oceanic shrine, long neglected.
Berry Master: A master berry grower, said to maintain a vast garden that includes even EV-reducing and pinch berries.
Sentinel Ruins: The second of two great ruins, said to have once been the home of an order devoted to the twin shields of truth and honour. Bears the same glyphs and mysterious power as the Desert Labyrinth.
Move Relearner: A mysterious hermit said to know how to teach a Pokemon any move they have ever learned in the past, including egg moves, as well as any tutor moves.
Graveyard of Being: A place where many Pokemon and humans were once laid to rest after a great war. Ghosts bearing nightmares and dreams are said to come to any who rest here.
Bountiful Oasis: A small, lush oasis nestled in the inhospitable islandic desert, said to always overflow with fresh water.
Reminiscence Gate: A massive arch engraved with the legends of countless regions, dating back to before formal human settlement. It is said that, should a person pass through the gate and be found worthy based on their journey, the carvings themselves may come to life to test their strength.
On every route, you may catch one non-uber, non-legendary pokemon that either fits the biome, or that could be found on the regional landmark. Starting from Quatown, non-uber legendaries may be caught, given that the region makes sense. Culise alone holds the list of what legendaries can be encountered where, and will release the list at appropriate times.
Pokemons may freely be traded among players, as well as items, at any time.
Several regional landmarks stand out:
Scholars retreat: Here, you can go to catch a legendary pokemon that would live on routes that came before legendaries are allowed. Example, the volcano Mount Vernier - fire based legendaries likely reside here. You may only come here to catch legendaries from routes you actually traveled, however.
Team Mal HQ: Hosts the Team Mal Leader challenge, see more below.
Berry master: Using EV-changing berries, this landmark allows you to reset your pokemons EVs - give your rivals a nasty suprise when your previously defensive pokemon suddenly starts hitting like a freight-train...or simply fix mistakes.
Move Relearner: From here on out, pretty much all non-TM moves are legal to learn, and more importantly, re-learn. Change your pokemons attack-loudout drasticaly (perhaps in accordance to the EV changes earlier?), or simply fix mistakes.
Reminiscence Gate: Here, you may catch any Uber, given that you previously traveled a route that would probably be home to said uber.
This game depicts a journey, meaning your pokemon don't begin the journey already at the end of it.
Moves:
When you receive a new pokemon, it may know:
- any moves that it can learn via level-up, given it has reached a level at which it can know the move
- any egg-moves it has access to that can not be learned via level-up later
Between rounds, pokemon can level up and learn new moves. TM-Moves require that you either have that TM as an item, or that you have beaten the gym of the corresponding type. AS always in pokemon, once you have learned hidden power, the type of hidden power stays fixed - once you have decided, it'll remain as it is
As they would otherwise be entirely unavaiable until the last 2 rounds, Tutor moves can be treated as TMs can. If your Pokemon can learn a Tutor move, you can pick a TM (even if no such TM canonicaly exists, make up a number) and teach it to your mon, or of course if you have beaten the corresponding gym, just go ahead and teach the move anyway
Once the move relearner is reached, all egg, tutor and TM moves can be learned at will - no resctrictions. The question is - wait that long?

You begin your journey with 9 Pokeballs, and one non-ball item of your choice. No further pokeballs can be gained in the game, and only one pokeball can be used each round.
Every round, you receive an additional item. If you manage to beat the Gym of this round, you receive an additinal bonus item, and gain access to all TMs of the type of the gym.
Mega-Stones can only be obtained in Siette Town or later.
Evolution:
Pokemon evolve at their respective levels, though you may choose to leave them unevolved, if you prefer.
As items are scarce, pokemon that usualy evolve via methods other than level up, may instead evolve on lvl 30 (minimum), or 10 levels after it's previous evolution.
Pokemon with various forms (Rotom, various legendaries) may change their form ONCE. The new form stays permanent. Of Course the pokemons nature is chosen upon capture and remains fixed.
Legendaries:
Unlike for other pokemons, legendaries may not be duplicate - when two players want the same legendary, the player with the lowest score has presedence. When tied, talk it out like gentlemen!
Round 1: Start with a starter pokemon on level 10. This pokemon is special, as it always has to stay in your party, it can not be traded with other players or swapped out later. It is encouraged that you pick your personal favourite, but pick as you like. Battle eachother. No Evs are invested yet.
Round 2: The players catch a second pokemon on the route, battle the first Gym, and battle eachother. Level is 20. Each pokemon has 100 EVs invested
Round 3: As above, level is 30. Each Pokemon has 200 EVs invested
Round 4: As above, level is 40. Each Pokemon has 300 EVs invested
Round 5: As above, level is 50. Each Pokemon has 400 EVs invested
Round 6: Legendaries become avaiable, level is 60. Each Pokemon has all EVs invested
Round 7: Additionaly to the normal Gym-challenge, the player with the highest score will take the role of the Team Mal Leader. He should take great care to make this difficult, because the price is 3 bonus items. level is 70
Round 8: Mega stones become avaiaible. This round, the battle between players will be dual battles. Depending on time-zones and avaiability, maybe even as teams. The Gym is also a dual battle, and dual-typed. Level is 80
Round 9: A normal round as above, level is 90
Round 10: Ubers become avaiable, level is 100.
Between battles, once you have more than 6 pokemons, you may switch your team around freely, as to better face the challenge of your rivals - countering your rivals is key to success, and prediction decides over life and death, sometimes.
Final Challenge: Challenger vs the Elite 4 and the Champion.
Every player may call upon a type they wish to claim for their gym (if there are more than 8 players, first come, first served), and will be randomly assigned to each town. A gym leader may built a monotype team that has always one pokemon less than the players have (so from round 7 onwards, has 6 pokemons, as the players have seven). The gym leaders signature pokemon is 5 levels above the current levels, all other pokemons are 3 levels below the current levels, moveset restrictions as above apply.
The team Mal Leader may freely chose from all non-legendaries and non-ubers, without type restrictions. He may also hold a mega.
The elite 4 members may choose from any of the types currently not held (lowest score chooses first), and may either hold a mega OR an uber.
The current champion has no type restrictions, and may hold one mega AND one uber. A difficult challenge for the challenger.

Remember, the point of the game is Rivalry - Your team changes every round, and can adapt to your rivals. What defeated your last turn might turn into your strength next turn, given you picked an appropriate counter to previous danger. With 10 rounds, every players has the chance to make a turnabout.
